i remember shadowing a single merchant while submerged for an hour or so.
before i submerged, weather conditions were good and winds were low enough to use the deck gun.
once i got into position to attack, i blew ballast thinking i'd blast the ship with my deck gun. apparently the winds picked up from the time i submerged, and i also didn't notice the merchant was armed....ouch.
that didn't turn out too well.
