Might have spoken too soon. As it turns out all pre-saves are now only playing up to a certain point consistantly. Going to uninstall and reinstall, oh yay

Another rule that sometimes flies by and we forget, (especially me) is not to save underwater, or save too close to land (in harbor), or other ships, or too soon after a big sinking (this is the same as too close to ships) and on and on.
I will some times corrupt my saves by doing one of these. Though it usually results in mods cancelling out, it can result in other glitches like crashes or UI problems.
Ayway, I hope a simple reinstall works for you. Also, you should probably forget those saves just in case. Delete'em. No matter how good your game was going as soon as you try and drop that old save in there you're right back where you started.
Good Luck lonewulph.

Wise words sir and thank you. The last 'Western Approach' save I'm trying to reload was well out into open water, on surface, no targets sunk or alive on map, in conning tower, heading back in for refit.

I wish I had good news to report after the reinstall.

-I deactivated all mods and uninstalled SH5, retained My mods folder and saved games.
-Reinstalled and started the sim.
-Exited and patched to latest version, restarted computer, restarted sim, Uplay updated itself here.
-Completed tutorial, received briefing in Kiev and selected mission, started mission, saved game in bunker, exited.
-Activiated half of the below listed mods, stopping before Open Horizons.
-Loaded saved game in Kiev bunker. All looked good, saved and exited.
-Activated the rest of the below listed mods, started sim and loaded Keiv bunker save. Looks good. Exited to main menu.
-Selected Western Approaches saved game, after progress bar goes to blank screen, there's a pause then CTD.

Damn might have to let those other saves go, bummer I was doing so good. Was looking forward to seeing the Mediterranean.

Only solution left it to deactivate all mods, load one at a time, start sim, and keep going until I get to the mod crashing the sim. Dunno

You should start a new campaign with the OHII installed, and then skip the tutorial.
And don't use OHII base v1.7 + OHII enviro v1.7 + OHII New Ships v1.7 together. You should use the OHII full...

Ok got the saved missions back and so far proceeding without crashes and solid fps.
I did the sh5.exe 3gb switch operation as well as the DOS command, also I went back and made sure I activated the mods not just while in the bunker, but while outside of the boat.

I'm assuming the Uplay update somehow possibly affected .exe 3gb switch, or one or some of the mods. I'm not sure but the full reinstall and remodding proceedures
from step one finally addressed the issue and this thing is running like an ape on fire on my particular system. Thanks again for the input mates.
