The number and type of flak guns available depends on the year, the u-boat type (a function of your flotilla) and the tower (Turm) variant you have.

The default flak on all u-boat types is a single 20mm c/30 flak gun and a Turm 1 through 1941. The twin barrelled c/30 "zwilling" first becomes an optional up-grade in all flotillas in 1940 and the 37 mm is an additional default to the IXB.

Turm 2 becomes available in 1942. The default flak becomes two twin-barrelled C/30.

Two single barrelled c/38 (with a 40 round clip instead of 20) become the default in 1943 when Turm 2 becomes the default. Turm 3 and 2 twin C/30 are optional . The IXC40 and IXD2 also become available in 1943 as well for the 2nd flotilla. I assume the same is true for the 12th flotilla, but I didn't test that. Turm 3 adds a 37mm heavy flak. The 4-barrelled flakveirlling becomes optional on Turm 3.

After 1943, the options abound. See for yourself.

This is it exactly, I don't have the option, I'm jiggered as to why. Anywho I transferred to 2nd flotilla and wham! I have all upgrade options including the illusive c/30 "zwilling". Revert back to 7th/13th no bloody zwilling Do you guys think I should stop drinking

Best regards.

You've got a corrupt file somewhere.

I just started new careers - in both vanilla SH3 and in SH3 with GWX Gold - in the 7th/13th flotilla in 1940.

In both cases, the default boat was a VIIC with a single C/30 flak. However, the C/30 zwilling appeared as an upgrade option.

Try it for yourself. Start a new 1940 career in the 7th. See what you get.
