We'll never know, if there was a space between the line and the ball or not, either way it would be counted in millimeters, possibly centimeters. To be absolutely honest watching live I thought it was a goal (apart from the offside) only on reflection and really looking at the images, IMHO it is not possible to be sure.

And no, it doesn't matter now and it wouldn't have mattered had it been given. Which makes me doubly suspicious of Blatters reaction. Not that I disagree, mind you. Were GLT implemented already we would know beyond any reasonable doubt.

Regards,
Sam.

I would put my mortgage on it that he would have said

"I still see no need for goal line technology" or something like that anyway

To be fair to the guy, he did loosely change his mind after the World Cup debacle, but has dragged his heels a bit. Now, all of a sudden, he deems it a necessity.

The ball did cross the line but the offside infraction was overlooked so it's 'swings and roundabouts' in my book.

in other words, a referee can let for 3 offside goals for team A in the first half, provided he will do the same for team B in the second half?

repairing one mistake by doing another doesn't convince me tbh...tho, I know what you mean.
But still, Ukraine did deserve that draw...

Yeah, you win some and you lose some.

That is the element of human error that is allowed under the rules atm.

The only surefire way is to introduce goaline technology and provided it only means an official looks at a playback and doesn't hold the game up for more than let's say fifteen seconds then so be it...far better than all the ambiguity that has remained since the 1966 world cup final for example.

Right-o.

I would like to see that whining and sissy crying if the English team had scored like that...

I like the element of human error in footie, gives the game some more emotion. And I say this having been on the reciving end of some horrendeously bad calls.

Germany-Greece today. That will be no easy match, and I disagree with those assuming this is safe prey for Germany. The Greeks will try to destroy the match by playing extremely passive, because that is the only option they have with that lack of individual class of their players. Germany should make an early goal, to force them to open their formation and allow more space for the germans. Ifd the German s do not get that space and just face two concrete walls, then the balance will shift the more in favour for the Greeks the longer the match lasts. The Greeks will also be extremely motivated due to politics, which I expect to play no role for the Germans. I read the rethorics is boiling hot in the Greek press already. It seems they really think they are playing against Merkel's boys, not Löw's boys.

Germany by class is the favourite , but the Greeks are exactly that kind of match-destroying team that the Germans do not like at all to play against, and against which they often show a certain helplessness.

This match will not be a self-runner for Germany, not at all. It is possible that the Greeks win in overtime or penalties. But I hope not, of course. I also hope the Germans win more pace and agility. So far they have not really convinced me. Their play is still too slow.

German win by one goal lead, my tip.
