Jim,

Great photo's . You have a great looking family! Must feel a bit strange to have your son say, "Step into my office. She is 285 metres long."

Great photos Jim!

Looks like you had a great visit. Tell that lad 'good show' from all the other jealous dads at Subsim.

Cheers mate.

You'll remember this from #56

Quote:
Here she is at the Commissioners Quay on the north bank of the Tyne.

She is 285 metres long and the car park is obviously longer in length with very few cars, meaning any motorist entering the car patk (which is free) can park just about anywhere they want.

I've posted that information for a very good reason as you will realise soon.
Well here is why...we were booked for a lunch in one of the two main restaurants onboard 'The Pinnacle' and during said lunch James was looking out of a window when he said to Lauren "That guy in the car looks like my mate David".
Lauren looked and said "It is David" and both started waving until David eventually saw them and waved back.
James then rang his mobile and had a conversation with him...what are the odds of someone parking precisely opposite the window we were sat at?

The Pinnacle restaurant We were sat next table left of the people in view.

There are glass lifts either side of midships protruding from the superstructure and overlooking the water...I swore I'd never go in one and at the time of taking the picture I wasn't aware that is what they were.

The mats are changed every day denoting the day of the week (probably for the benefit of the elderly passengers).

The view from inside (the cheeks of my bottom were very tight LOL).

It was now time to leave and after many a cuddle and a few tears we returned to South Shields to meet family and head back to our vantage point to see her leave the Tyne.

The DFDS ferry left thirty minutes earlier

Here she comes and James once more is sounding the horn to let us know he can see us (I'll post a few short video links for anyone that might be interested).

Up on the bridge with Nick his Swedish Cadet colleague

Heading out to sea

Fair winds and following seas son.

Jim, what can I say? You're a lucky man, and he's a lucky guy to have such a family around him. You are rightfully very proud, he's turned out very well, and I'd wager will be captaining his own ship before long.

Good sailing James!

Game Front won't let me watch them. "Encountered a problem and forced to close". Or maybe it's just IE, but I doubt it.

Downloaded the first one just fine and the second is downloading now, try FF or Chrome, it could be IE...

Give your young lass a hug from me Jim, sounded like an emotional moment all round. She close to her brother I take it?

Reminds me of a poem, also quoted in reference to the submarine service, but I think applicable to anyone who has a relative who travels abroad a lot in their employment.

Quote:
When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days in this dark world and wide,
And that one Talent which is death to hide
Lodged with me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest He returning chide,
"Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?"
I fondly ask. But Patience, to prevent
That murmur, soon replies, "God doth not need
Either man's work or his own gifts. Who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is kingly: thousands at his bidding speed,
And post o'er land and ocean without rest;
They also serve who only stand and wait.

Turns out you were right. I still won't use Firefox as my default browser, due to other problems, not the least of which is that no matter how many times I click "NO" it still installs that cursed Yahoo Toolbar.

Can't remember if it installed that stupid toolbar for me or not, either way I got rid of it. I mainly use Firefox because of noscript which is a godsend against viruses hiding in adverts or other such java trickery. Chrome, alas does not have the scripting to handle noscript or I'd use that.

Anyway, I shall stop there because I'm getting dangerously close to a thread hijack...

My biggest dream about taking a cruise has now become even stronger, after reading your thread. Talking about a cruise that will take more than 10 days. It is my economy that makes me have to wait some years until I can afford it

One of these cruises is to take a trip across the Atlantic and back.
