On the map, the red X,s are enemy sunk and I guess the blue are friendly sunk but what are the black X's ?

I've seen the black sunken ship icon appear if a ship sinks from being rammed, or the weather sinks them, or they run aground. Usually means destroyed but not by enemy fire.
Also saw it happen to task force I fired into. A Fuso BB ran over a friendly DD, and that was the icon that appeared on the map.

what mods you runnin bubblehead? i dont have those cities on guadalcanal listed....all i have is Hoinara or something like that

TMO 2.5 and RSRD.RSRD is what adds the great battles, not sure if lurker ever got mod of the year for RSRD, but he sure deserved it.You must be running stock?

thought i was runnin tmo 2.5 and rsrdc but apparently only tmo 2.5 was activated....changed it now, but i gotta start a new career to see all the goodies

Black X's were various cruisers and DD's of both USN and IJN that went down during the fight when outside my visual range or when I was submerged dodging depth charges.Noticed it happening a few times.Saw some planes crash when following them on air search(SD) radar via the map but they crashed, left the gray ship sunk marker so have concluded its what the map shows, if it does(occasionally does not leave a mark at all) when a unit is sunk or shot down outside your visual range...ie your lookouts or scopes.
