Q:
Are you going through the career with map contacts off?

A:
Yes, full switch. Though, because it *is* youtube and you guys probably do want to see some action, I may leave the event camera on. Convoys are easy. Just plot one ship, the rest are on the same course and speed. The merchies will always be in a grid formation with x columns and x rows. The spacing interval is going to be very regular, usually about 500 yards between ships.

Q:
What bearing plotter mod are you using?

A:
I've been using it for a long time, so I'm not exactly sure. However, I believe it's a modified version of the one that came with tmo 1.7. I resized it for 1920X1080 res, fixed the slight alignment issue, and chopped it down to 2000 yards because 3000 was too big and crashed the game. I remember doing the above modifications for a fact, but I'm only about 75% sure that tmo was the source plotter. If someone wants it, I'd be happy to put it online.

I tried starting patrol 1 of the video playthrough, and got a whole mess of technical glitches for my trouble. I would normally revert to an earlier save, but since I'm serious about the whole single life thing, I didn't have any. Since this is the case, I'm just calling this attempt a wash, and will save frequently from now on, just for stuff like this. Not sure what caused the problems, but I'm thinking I should probably check my computer fans. I'm cursed in that department, and it looks like the kind of problem they could cause.

Anyways, these are just some highlights of the problems I had.

Looks like you were going to have some fun with a task force. Shame that the game decided to kill itself and replace your crew with what looked like ghosts

That was spooky indeed, crewmen standing on the bridge while submerged, ghosts in the control room and stuff. Never been that scared in my life! This is what 'eternal patrol' really is about. It's hell.

Patrol 1 is completed and live.

Honestly, not a lot happened, bad weather and no radar meant that I just didn't run into much of anything flying the rising sun. Only one merchant encountered. I did happen to run into a ton of friendlies though...

Great presentation, enjoyed it a lot. Very interesting to see how others deal with problems; for instance, a crippled but not-yet-sunk merchant.

Can't wait to see your next patrol!

I'm following, thanks. I'm particularly interested in all the various ways to set up a firing solution - when/how to do TDC vs. position keeper vs. neither.

Good show!

I always thought it was necessary to align the vertical wire in the periscope with the waterline of the ship in order to measure distance, but apparantly this is not necessary. This is going to save me some time.

I like your no-TDC attack method. Does it have a name? (I want to read more about it.)

I am looking forward to your next patrol

Thanks! Looking forward to your next outing! Feel free to use TDC as I could use all the help I can get with manual settings.

Just a small note here. I've got the bulk of patrol 2 done I quit before it was fully finished because I was tired. Lotsa action this time and it's got a cliffhanger! Anyways, I've got video encoding/resizing/etc right now. I'll probably start uploading late sunday morning (gmt-7). Expecting it to be live about late sunday evening or early monday morning.

Edit: As always, the assumed cavaet is: so long as nothing goes wrong.

It seems I lied, but in a good way. The vids are uploading now. I'll make them available sometime tonight baring unforseen complications. Of course, I find out after I split the vid that youtube has removed the 15 minute time limit and that this feature has been enabled on my account... Whatever...

The new vids are live. About an hours worth of footage. Some highlights:

A Couple of lone merchants
A Few aircraft
A Photo Recon Op
A large Convoy spotted

The next vids will be me attacking the convoy.

Of note, youtube apparently thinks that part 5 is somehow infringing on "Uwe Bothe Surviving New York City (Discey Remix)" despite not having any music in it at all... Should still be working, dispute filed.
