If you are in Sydney I'd be happy to show you some of the best watering holes in town. A visit to Garden Island Naval Dockyard is worthwhile, but you'll need to get someone to escort you around unless there is an open day on. (last year there was one in early October IIRC). Not sure when the next one is. There you can visit the HMAS Kuttabul memorial where the ferry Kuttabul was sunk by Japanese midget subs in 1942.

You can visit an Oberon class sub and ex-HMAS Vampire a cold war destroyer at the National Maritime museum in Darling Harbour just on the western side of the city.

There are plenty of interesting little places around the harbour worth a visit as well, such as Bradley's head, North or South head and The Gap. Get yourself out to the Blue Mountains to get a look at the Jameison Valley.

If you are in Melbourne you can visit HMAS Castlemaine a WWII Bathurst class corvette or in Brisbane the HMAS Diamantina a River class destroyer. Not sure if there are any US Sub memorials up there but can ask my brother who lives in Brisvegas if he knows.

If you get time in Perth take a trip 3hours north to the Pinnacles which is well worth the time to get there.

Don't forget to brush up on your Aussie slang as well so you don't get lead down the garden path.

Thanks, we will be in Sydney so will most likely take you up on that offer as I am a fan of watering holes Let me know what you brother says, I found via google that there is a MacArthur museum in Brisbane(ooo) lol which I am sure is great but figured a US sub museum or memorial of some sort may be there as Brisbane was a big part of the PTO sub war.
