What just happened in China?

Quote:
State media reported this week that 3,300 party cadres from the security apparatus would be sent to Beijing for ideological retraining. The order was unusual enough, but even more so was the fact that the report omitted mention of internal security czar Zhou Yongkang, who heads the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee that is recalling the cadres.

Zhou, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee and until now one of the most powerful men in China, had been the committee's strongest backer of Bo Xilai, the Communist Party secretary of Chongqing who was removed from his post last week. Some overseas Chinese-language Internet sites carried wild (and unsubstantiated) rumors that Zhou and Bo, a popular figure among Maoist traditionalists, had tried to stage a coup.
Quote:
The Mingjing News, a U.S.-based news portal, reported that Bo had been scheming with Zhou to prevent vice president and heir apparent Xi Jinping from being confirmed as President Hu Jintao's successor. It also reported that Bo purchased 5,000 rifles and 50,000 rounds of ammunition through the Chongqing Public Security Bureau, causing nervousness in Beijing.

Impressive, I think Bo has been under watch for a while now, but to get the head of the Internal Security on his side...

The strains of the unique Chinese blend of Communism and Capitalism vs the shadow of Mao are starting to show...

I wonder where Geng stands on this...

The sad thing is that Mali could have a dozen coups and nobody would even glance at a globe to see where it is.

Just a rumor of one in China however...

From what I can see, it looks like this is a move by Hu Jintao to make sure that Bo Xilai doesn't get onto the Standing Committee, where he could well have implemented a coup with the backing of Zhou Yongkang who controls the state security forces.
The final piece in the puzzle which has enabled them to move against Bo was the Wang Lijun affair. Now the CCP elders can shunt Bo off his career path, and take the oil monopoly from Zhou.
It's a classic Communist power struggle, and a sign of the times that news of it has leaked out to the public.
Hopefully this incident will put the Maoists back, the PRC really doesn't need another Mao in power, nor does the world.

They could just extend the great wall a little further. According to Hollywierd that's where they stash the corpses of their enemies anyways.
