You appear to be right about it being the stern deck gun bug. Editing out the upgrades like you pointed out doesn't seem to change anything. I'm toying around with attempting to edit the gun and slots back into a the ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc but having mixed results - I can fully replace it with the one from the last patrol and it seems to carry over properly but that loses all crew improvement over the same time period. Likely not a major concern seeing as it wasn't a phenomenal patrol but still somewhat frustrating over time.
Something that might help - I was originally Pac Fleet but was transferred mid-campaign (when I was almost home to Pearl, actually - argh!) to Fremantle. Any advice on the best way to achieve or create a transfer back to Pearl and pick up a Gato? |

I received the same update you say about periscope to reduce sillouete but with the Salmon class sub. In case we encountered the same issue or bug, which seems to be very similar you followed this steps correctly?
If you have a saved patrol before the refit, then you can modify the NSS_Tambor.eqp in your case, removing the upgrade. Then you start the game and load the patrol, and play it again and at the end the upgrade is supposed to not take place this time. I loose the upgrade but i didn't want to go patrol again without radar. I hope this helps. Sorry for my english. |

I did save a game before the refit, but modifying the tambor.eqp has no effect on the glitch once I reach home and I still get the upgrade notice. I'm going to jump in and try a few different things to see where it gets me and will report back.

Got nothing - I'm apparently doing something wrong. For now I'll just curse BuOrd, man the deck gun myself, and generally pretend that I'm a guppy.

In my experience with TMO in every class but the Tambor/Gar you are defaulted to deck guns being fore it has never tried to give me an aft deck gun in TMO or a fore deck gun if I run the aft deck gun only option that is TMOs cure for the "deck gun bug" it can effect a swap in either direction.
The OP did say if he merely lost the stern 5 inch 51 and can only replace it with a 3 inch or 4 inch on the stern(which the this class should always have stern guns in TMO) or if he lost the gun and it got flipped to fore. It may actually be a different glitch if you start the war in the Tambor it might have come with a 5 incher but historically the Tambor/Gars where built with a stern mount able to take a 5/51 but they did not actually start mounting them until 1943 if the CO wanted one they came new with a 3 inch 50.Maybe TMO does not make the 5/51 available for the class until a certain date and if you start with one but get an upgrade before that date you will lose the one you have. My advice would be if you got lucky and started the war with a 5/51 on your Tambor class then turn down upgrades until 1943 to be sure that you don't lose it.Also you should avoid taking lots of damage this kills your renown and results in you getting crappy upgrades maybe they took the 5/51 because you are taking to much damage. ![]() You might also want to try and test the default deck gun position options it might be a bug that occurs when you have a Tabmor class but also have the stern deck gun gun option also in use try using the default TMO mode and see what what happens then. No, EricW was correct - it was the stern deck gun bug. I was able to refit to a 5.5 when I was transferred to Fremantle mid-patrol, I did not have the option to take the gun to the fore mount, I now only have the option for the fore mount and therefore only the 3.5 and 4.5 guns (I'm carrying a 4.5 for the extra impact/shell, reload times without crew slots are long enough that every shell has to be more profound than what the 3.5 throws.
In compensation, every torpedo I loaded after that refit ran hot, straight, true, and at the proper depth, so there was definitely an upside. |

I'm going to try to edit the equipent.cfg file so the refit never takes place. Hopefully that works.
