Out of interest I looked up the frequency that u-boat radar used and depending on the type it was either 368 or 556 MHz. When you consider that modern analogue TV transmitters in the UK broadcast at around 474 MHz at much higher power, the crew on the u-boat were quite safe from being cooked alive!

During WW2 it was known that a does of radar radiation on the 'privates' made one sterile for a few days. I have heard of stories of the groundstation radar crews 'getting their dose' before hitting the town for the weekend.
