I've never played SH5 (I'm in SH3) but circular runners are well documented in real life.

The first version (both german and american) of the torpedoes launched by subs in WW2 were too imperfect. In SH4 and SH5 sometimes the torpedo runs a circle pattern, closing to much to the sub (in real life, a US submarine, i dont remember the name, was hit by her own torpedo), and of course its a "realism option", not a bug.
