Back to base.

Here is some more specific information:

Edit Basic cfg file in SH3/data/Config directory by implementing Tessa's info:
[PLAYER_RENOWN]
AcademyBonus=1000
RankLevel0=0; SCORE
RankLevel1=1499; SCORE
RankLevel2=7999; SCORE
RankLevel3=14999; SCORE
RankLevel4=22999; SCORE
RankLevel6=36999; SCORE
RankLevel7=58999; SCORE
RankLevel8=94999; SCORE
RankLevel9=152999; SCORE

Next step - Edit en_menu txt file in SH3/data/menu directory by implementing this:
(...)

169=Oberleutnant z. S.
170=Oberleutnant z. S.; Kapitänleutnant
171=Kapitänleutnant; Korvettenkapitän
172=Korvettenkapitän; Fregattenkapitän
173=Fregattenkapitän; Kapitän z. S.
174=Kapitän z. S.; Kommodore

175=Exit To Menu

176=Komodore, Konteradmiral
177=Konteradmiral; Vizeadmiral
178=Vizeadmiral; Admiral
178=Admiral; Grossadmiral

(...)
than edit in SH3 Commander Cfg. files directory file named static settings in this way:

";The below lines provide more realistic promotions (sooner) and medals (longer)
;within the context of the SH3 game engine
;PLAYER_RENOWN|RankLevel0=0; SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|RankLevel1=1499; SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|RankLevel2=7999; SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|RankLevel3=14999; SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|RankLevel4=22999; SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|RankLevel6=36999; SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|RankLevel7=58999; SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|RankLevel8=94999; SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|RankLevel9=152999; SCORE

;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalSettings0=0.25
;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalSettings1=0.5
;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalSettings2=1
;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalScore0=3000;2 class, SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalScore1=6000;1 class, SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalScore2=20000; knight, SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalScore3=30000; oak leaves, SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalScore4=40000;swords, SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalScore5=50000;diamonds, SCORE
;PLAYER_RENOWN|MedalScore6=90000;all, SCORE"

And that should do the trick.

Now SH3 Com. will recognize ranks higher than Kapitänleutnant. It will also support it with appropriate rank labels in SH3 crew list and crew management screen.

Good hunting

I've seen that as well on some of the SH3 files. Usually, Win7 gives you a pop-up box that offers the option to make the changes as Administrator. That said, I've had to cancel the changes, reboot the system, and try again. Eventually, SAVE works or you get get the Administrator box.

Assuming you are the only one using your system, you should be Admniistrator by default.

You didn't install into the program files, did you?

Irish1958 makes an excellent point.

Win7 protects c:/Program Files with a passion. Wise are they who never try to install other programs there, no matter if that's the default path your program disc chooses.

Always install into c:/Program Files (x86) instead.

Save yourself a lot of headaches later.

Only way I know to reach korvettenkapitän is to manually edit Carees.cfg file.

If you're promoted to that rank you would no longer be commanding a u-boat, but likely the Flotilla.

Obltn Strand is correct.

You can select any rank you want for yourself by editing c:/My Documents/SH3 (or if using Multi-SH3, whatever name you chose for it)/data/cfg/Careers/player's name/Careers.cfg

SH3 only creates this file after the first career patrol so you can make the change any time after that.

Do not edit Careers_0.cfg; it won't work.

Scroll down to the last career patrol (i.e. [CAREER 009]) and then to the line entry "PlayerRank". You should see something like this:

PlayerName=Player (or whatever career name you're using)
PlayerRank=10

Change the "10" to one of the following values to get the indicated rank:

10 = Oberleutnant (the SH3 default)
11 = Kapitanleutnant
12 = Korvettenkapitan
13 = Fregattenkapitan
14 = Kapitan zur See
15 = exit to menu <= text appears in lieu of your rank
16 = Komodore; Konteradmiral
17 = Oberleutnant <= BdU is unhappy with your latest KTB. Back to square one or the Eastern front
18 = Vize Admiral
19 = no rank appears; just your career name

ONLY MAKE THIS CHANGE WHEN YOU ARE IN PORT. SH3 doesn't like mid-patrol file changes unless it makes them.

@Raptor

I followed your procedure and discovered that my rank was already
PlayerRank=12 -->Korvettenkapitan

The problem is that it doesn't show up in the game.
In game the rank is shown as Kapitanleutnant
I am using GWX and SH3 Commander

What could be the problem?
My current renown is 36600 points

Thank you

Thank you guys for the feedback...
@raptor i try to do like you said but with out sucess...

@irish1958 i install the game (sh3) in hardisc c/programs(x86)/ubisoft/silenthunter3

In those days from the windows xp one time i make this changes without any problem at all and in the game everything works perfect...promotions and medals and renown...but this last windows its so neuroctic with any kind of changes and dont help a young, heroic, good mate like me!!

@Red Heat:

WinXP is far more tolerant (or less protective?) than is Win7. You can get away with installing extra stuff to c:/Program Files in WinXP. You are not advised to do that with Win7. Not-so-funny things can sometimes happen when you do or so I am told by reliable I.T. types and other Subsim forum users.

@vonHarris:

I know it works with GWX Gold. Be sure you are editing Careers.cfg, not Careers_0.cfg. I don't use Commander, so it may have something to do with the Commander settings. Someone else will have to answer that for you.

Thanks, Raptor...
But i was able to resolve my problem with the changes in the file in question.
This is what i did to change and save the file:

ex: Basic cfg/properties/security/edit/add (your account user name) and below in /permissions for sistem/ you select all and apply...now you are able to change and save the file you want.

P.S. Atention this changes was a original post from Cezbor and i have sure witch it works fine under windows xp 32 bites, there isnt any garantee wich it will work under windows professional 7 at 32 bites or 64 bites or other... i will test this on my pc and i will post any results about this experience...thank you!

Good Hunting!
