I've seen weird DDs too when I was ending a patrol there were some British DDs and they were weirdly going around in circles but when they were doing that THEY KEPT COURSE WITH ME they were spinning in circles close nearby but they would stop briefly and keep course with me then spinning in circles again.

i have seen that too but its a little different situation because in that case they are in attack mode, they had a ghost image of you and thought they were depth charging a sub |

The ones that annoyed me didn't do that they just spun in circles from SW England up to NW of Scapa.

I think that when they are spinning in circles - they are just trying to hold range and bearing, but are set at a higher speed than you are travelling.
