Hmm, I wounder if it is possiable to make damage different, I would thing holes from a DD gun would be smaller. and a Debth charge would not be as big, the metal would have a hole/ dented in not HUGE holes like in 4?

I agree. The huge holes look kind of unrealistic. I dont understand why this wasent changed after sh-4.
I wonder if the huge holes could be changes to dented metal or something.

Yes, maybe parts of damaged hulls will look better?
I'm sure - it will look better.
The question is: maybe other filter or other texture can be used?

Much depends on what the patch allows.
Can we add damages as was done in SH4?
If so?
Then a wide range is possible.
If not, and we are left to what we have?
Then there's ALOT of work to be done getting around things.
It can be done but it's a long haul!

With this only direct cannon fire on the sub shows a hole, it's the same effect that npc ships show when you torp them or shell them. I tried to get stuff from sh3 and sh4 to work but didn't have any luck.

The damage decal controller has 2 things a person can change, hole shape and hole model, with these you need to specify a mesh that it will use, it doesn't use textures. Leaving them blank like I did gives you the default effect it uses now. I haven't found any meshes that can be used in these spots and maybe ubisoft only has the default in the game. If someone is decent with meshes (I'm clueless) maybe they could try and make a mesh that will display damage more as it should be, tho this still wouldn't get depth charges to show damage on the sub with how the controller is currently.

Would it be possible to model the pressure hull under the outer hull, so that cannon fire exposes the outside of the pressure hull and the torn superstructure in the ballast tanks, under the deck, around the conning tower, etc instead of the inside of the compartment? It seems like anything that would make a big hole all the way into the room would send the boat to the bottom in a hurry...

well my friends i have the same problem with my uss montana battleship...even if she gets many hits from shells there is no visible damage at all..not even a hole or black splashes on hull...i am running sh4 version 1.4 by the way...is there a texture pack or something i can fix this?

edit - I changed a file that I'm sure no other mod uses.. it should be compatible with all mods I know of

I tried to add damage how sh3 showed it also but sh5 can't use that controller with a granny file. In sh3 the flak/deck guns got damaged.. they had a separate model for the damaged state and sh5 doesn't have that.. I tried to add that also. The big thing is that even tho I didn't touch the conning tower files if a shell hits the conning tower it'll show a hole on the outside .. but be fine when your in the tower. Kinda strange and funneh looking. C'est la vie
