Default Sim of any ROV or research/touristc submersibles

Hi there!

As the name of the topic allready says, I am looking for a cheap and physically correct simulator for a ROV of each class or for a sim for any touristic/research submersble like Alvin, Mir, Triton and so on.

The accent is on physics precision and authentic controls. I allready tried out german "Tauchfahrt zur Titanic" from Astragon and some demos of hi-end Sims like ROVsim. The Astragon-Sim fully disappointed me, because even joystick control didn't work correctly. Another possibility is one of the sub-add-ons of "Virtual Sailor", but I don't know how about quality of those selfmade add-ons.

The problem is that I'am a german student of naval architecture and I can't even think of paying 900 Dollars for an educational version of ROVsim or something like that. 50, maybe 100 Euros is a maximum of what am I able to spend.

I am about to become a pilot of a selfmade research submarine and was ca 3 hours on the way with two another selfmade subs (all three not made by me ),so I just would like to get a feeling of maneuevering whatever (not very large, max 100 tons) under water. There's not much practically meaning behind this, but I am just fascinated of controling the small submersible vehicles.

Thank you for your help and sorry if a similar topic allready exists. I'm looking for those sim for couple of years.

I guess, that what I am looking for is too special, to be simply available. But the hope dies at last.

Yeah, the market for a casual/game version of a somewhat accurate ROV sim
would be a risky investment simply because the market is so small for that kind
of stuff.

It was a bit of a pain to get working. I didn't like it much. Just not my thing.

Edit: Oh nevermind, just reread OP, i guess you've tried it already.

Right, there were bugs on every level and in the end, there were bug in the C4-Engine, which didn't allow to use the joystick correctly.

But the idea of this game was the closest one to what I'm dreaming of.

Hi!

Does anyone have experience with this one?

It seems to be free, at least the wreck-scenario.

Hi Deep Blue...!!
What an interesting project you have on your hands! I envy you a little

Keyboard commands works good in this simulator? Because if so, you could use xpadder, a program that assigns keyboard and/or mouse commands to joystick/pad buttons.

I use it and is pretty configurable.

Good luck!

OK, I envy you a lot

Is there a web, blog, or something similar where I can follow the progress of your project?

What about Virtual Sailor? From what I can recall there was a definate difference being in the Minisub underwater and surfaced! And the physics already supports submarines. You may be able to create your own model for it too.
