Default [REL] SM - Battle of the Denmark Strait

Battle of the Denmark Strait.
A single mission

JSGME readyDownload

The Battle of the Denmark Strait was a Second World War naval battle between ships of the Royal Navy and the German Kriegsmarine, fought on 24 May 1941. The British battleship HMS Prince of Wales and the battlecruiser HMS Hood fought the German battleship Bismarck and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, both of which were attempting to break out into the North Atlantic to destroy Allied merchant shipping.

I know that there were no u-boats involved in the battle - but what if

In game:-

Prinz Eugen attacks a Sutherland search plane as it passes overhead.

The giants square up and the first salvo is exchanged.

No its over to you Kapitäne!
Can you make this historic victory over the Royal Navy even greater?

Good hunting

Do we get at the beginning or during the operation a "picture" from BdU about the starting (via radio)?
+ where (which position, speed, course) are our allies?
+ how much allies?
+ reported enemyposition, if any
+ believed intention of enemy, intention of our allies
etc.

Before any ships come into view - you do get a radio message.
It has very limited info.

Do you want this information added to the message - I can update the SM if you think this will help. Any tip welcome - this if my first SM

The mission is setup as in the link on post one.
All units are in there and their commands are the same too.
When the ships get within attack range - they will then do their own thing untill it is over - then continue on their paths.

*****Spoiler Tip****

After reaching the end waypoint - charge straight at the hood on the surface and dive when it starts firing at you

You can then get into a good possition to attack

I think "last known position at nn:nn zulu of xxxnameoftheshipxxxx was lat/long or grid " would be very realistic.
And course, speed and tatics of germany's ships should be known and transmitted. Or not?

Of course we need no cheating information. We need only information that was availeable by the BdU at that time.

Suggestion 1: send the well known correct radio-messages from the germans also to our u-boat

Suggestion 2: Create a enigma-version of the mission with crypted messages and a encryption-key to encrypt the messages.

Something like this ...
24 MARCH/0402/BdU/422/TPB FSA

NAYV SGRB RZLD BSIH WAHM
XPAZ BUBS MYBE GORU YHXT
YFMX KYGJ FRMY WYJG FGIV
WCSS FFCN MHCV WKSM VFKB
KVIJ IVLB QBWN KCMS QHXD
NVIL KAUP ICFG WJMK JZHF
OZHW SFJN GQJI TZJY SMSN
CLNF ZROO EJSD SRBI VEER
JEYI MCKT SQCO OEUB AANW
AYCX HWZZ XGMA ASRC UXGV
XGMF DKXQ CMOE WHCD BRIL
NYUM MQPZ JDFM VHOS DGMA
VEFW NHDS AXLS JJER OELQ
...
Everyone would be very interested what information the BdU/Kriegsmarine/Bismark or PrinzEugen has for us.

Do we need here special Mods to play this mission?
Start is local time 00:00 am, i got false daylight (it was bright as day) and i got on the navigation map no maptools (no ruler, no circle etc). I have no problems when playing other single-player missions.

Further on i suggest you give in the briefing the info what we have to do, when the mission is fired up: go heading 123°, speed 07 kts for example.
When you play with real navigation-mod you have no course-lines, you have no s/m-icon and nothing is clear.

Why do we get at the mission start at 22:00 23.05.41 UTC an "action plot" of the bismark and related ships from 05:35 24.05.41 UTC? You give that info during the mission when the time comes, not at all, at the end of the mission or mark that "action-plot" with a big spoiler tag. Knowing everything about that mission before the missionstart is a IMO lame.

What about the weather-setup? Is this historical correct or fantasy?

I am new to making single missions and am still learning

I can set mission time and date within the sub and within all units so that they will re-act at the time I want them too

What I am still learning is how to make the clock (ui) tell this time correcty. For the UI it is 00:00 01/01/40 with every mission even thought outside it is not.

Yes - good point

Not sure what you mean here - I think this is the ui time issue again and outside the boat it is 05:35. Its just not on your clock.
