I still get this all the time. At least every other time I boot up and /or place a new mod in, there goes the "Depth to Keel" callout as well as Ship spotted callouts. This works; One go out of the game, take a mod or two out of the soup temporarily.
Reboot the game. Test the depth to keel. It should be working. If it is, try placing the mods back in, if the callouts disappear again, now you know that it is a mod soup issue.
Mine definitely is a mod issue which kinda' scares me because of the mod that might be causing the issue is a very "must have" mod . I hope I can get it resolved, but for now I keep a couple of mods out. It might simply be a question of the amount of mods. Other players seem to circumvent this problem. Anyway, try this a couple of times, it might help.
Good Luck.

Doesn't sound like a mod issue to me. Sounds like you're running out of system memory Depending on the mods installed each could 'use' memory to some degree. My UIs mod loves memory.

Just upgrade your system to windows 64 bit with 8 gigs of ram . This should fix it .
