I could be wrong but, in the cases where the water is too shallow to sink, shelling it to swiss cheese or using more torpedoes can fully destroy the vessel to the point where you get credit for a kill. Might be worth a shot (or 50) but then again, the attempt might not be worth the ordinance you expend doing so.

Depending on the date, another possible explanation is that passenger ships (early war) are major no no.
British or not, doesn't matter. Mid September on my first patrol, I stumbled on a small French freighter. I ignored the orders from BDU that French vessels were only to be shot at in self defense. 2000 ton is still 2000 ton right? I wasn't credited the tonnage. In adition the ship did not display on the map as destroyed. I also believe it cost me some reknown, although I'm not entirely sure about that. |
