I'm currently running three campaigns in SH3 and three in SH4, plus two in AOTD, and one in SH5. No need to finish anything.

Default Navigator is Drunk

Hi there,

Along the same lines of the navigator being incompetent... I just recently added some mods and have switched to 100% realism with the realnav mod as well.
When i ask my navigator to give me a position fix, he's WAY off. For example there is a port in a small island north of Bremen (sub hq). I was at least 20km north of the port as I manually piloted there - but the nav guy plotted our location right ON the island. What's up?
I then tried to plot my way through the strait by Dunkirk and promply crashed into shallow water. Tough to go real nav when i can't get a fix! Any help?
thanks
Gek

Hi Geki and welcome to subsim

You can adjust the error for nav fixes in your TDWoptions.py using the options editor.

For why your fix was so far off The dead rec fix applies a % error from your last fix. If you do many dead rec fixes in a row - then this error will be increased. Try and use a celest fix now and then to help reduce dead rec errors.

You could also try the real nav script (check my sig for mod downloads) - it will take fixes at set times, mixing both dead rec and celst.

Default thanks

Hey thanks!

I did end up playing more and I think because i was driving around manually a lot and ONLY asking for dead reckoning... celest. reckoning helped a lot.
Now if i could just figure out how to hit a ship with a torpedo.... 10 misses in a row right now, can't seem to get the AOB through my head. Oh well, more practice!
thanks again

Practice makes perfect! However, the AOB is always the cause when I miss too. Doesn't take much error to make an otherwise perfect shot slide right by the target.

So I usually take it out of the equation and just line myself up at 90 degrees to the target's course, get a speed fix on the target and then program the TDC for a target with that speed being 90 AOB right in front of me. The rest is as easy as to rotate the scope until the gyro reads "0", then wait for the target to cross the middle of your crosshairs. (Thanks, Trevally! )
