Again proving that the public sector doesn't work for the public - but for itself.

Striking doesn't inconvience the government - it causes problems for the general public.

Just like the OWS'ers claiming that their "for the people" - then trying to shut down the subway that us normal folks need to just get home....

Double-edged sword. Sure it's going to inconvenience the general public and the government will spin it to turn public opinion against the strikers, but how else are people going to express their discontent at the course the government is taking?

There has to be other ways.
One could petition the legislative branch to conduct an investigation or change laws
One could petition the executive branch to conduct an investigation or change regulations
One could even petition the judicial branch to conduct an investigation if people feel there is criminal activity involved.
One could protest through elections and stop re-electing people they don't like
One starts at the local/state level and then moves on to the federal level.

There are multiple ways to enact changes in our country. But the system is rightfully set up so that the demands of a minority do not affect changes that affect the majority. A citizen can vote a person out of office but they only get one vote. No matter how important a citizen feels that their opinion is right, they only get one out of many votes.

But all this takes time and won't get the protester's face on TV.

These public demonstrations remind me of a spoiled child throwing a tantrum. Hey everyone look at ME now. Pay attention to ME. I am important. I want everyone to pay attention to what I feel is important. I want my cookie NOW!

These demonstrations are good for one thing only. It gives the news media fodder for their agendas. Well two things, I guess it makes the participants feel better about themselves. I doubt these demonstrations will have any other influence.

Has any of these OWS people offered up any actual workable realistic solutions? I have not been able to find any.

Thing is though, the average public opinion is apathetic in regards to politics, you only have to look at the gradual voter turnout decline over the years. People would much rather watch Big Brother, X-Factor [insert nation here]'s got Talent than debate over politics...therefore it's up to the minority to make as much noise as they can to try and break the majority out of their stupor.
I mean, the system is broken, one has to admit it, either the system is broken or the people in it are. I'm not saying Democracy is broken, it's not a great system in terms of productivity but it's better than the others, but there are certain elements of it, the power that banking moguls have, for example, which is very much broken but no-one wants to fix it because they're resigned to the fact that whatever they do, no-one will listen, nothing will get done, the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer.

Agreed...people might want to look further into the matter.

The government have failed to enter into meaningful negotiations for twelve months....but then came the announcement of the proposed strike date.

Suprise suprise!!

Easier to do now as Camerons sidekicks in the propoganda ministry have gone quiet after the hacking problems.

But on a more serious note, how crazy are the British government?
They are planning to put in volunteers with no security clearance to run the border checks where they will have full access to all the anti terrorism watchlists and databases.

How does that relate to security and immigration checks at international airports?

Of course they leave the car or its equivalent outside the check-in,
