Not defending him but I would like to point out that The New York Times is not owned by Mr. Bloomberg. Just pointing this out as I understood from your post that you are referring to OP article as "garbage".

Not what I meant to infer. I actually like the NY Times. It is a local paper to me. Editorials are hit or miss, but the news articles itself is good journalism.

I just see this as an attempt to "sanitize" the image of the NYPD in light of some recent events going on in the city. The police have a nasty reputation with some of the extreme tactics they have taken up recently.

My bad. Bloomy owns Bloomberg News network.
I should have made some kind of differentiation. But my fingers sometimes type the words faster then my brain can proofread for sense.
