As far as I can tell they're simply in it for good fun and to have a few laughs along the way.

That and money, Yogscast is their full-time job as far as I know. Which is a good
point to remember when reading Notch's "no one else got paid" comment.
Yogscast does this for living, they are asked to go to the other side of the world
to promote Minecraft. Sounds like a good reason to me to ask for a pay.

Or as Totalbiscuit put it:

but with a multi-millionaire staffing a convention with volunteers."
