They'd have to get four brothers, or four guys who look so much alike that they needed the funny getups just so people could tell them apart. And even then...

Exactly. Plus they were brothers who had worked together forever and in doing so honed their routines, their timing, and their entire schtick as an ensemble.

I could see making a movie *about* the Marx brothers, where actors are playing the brothers themselves, a biographical drama. That, to me, would be interesting if it could be done well.

But trying to make a "Marx Brothers movie" is a whole different thing. In their films, the MB - Groucho, Harpo, and Chico at least - were brothers playing "the Marx brothers" playing a cast of other characters... even if the characters they "played" were essentially still Groucho, Harpo, and Chico. It's not like you could remake "Duck Soup" and just get someone to play Rufus T. Firefly. You'd have to get someone to play Groucho playing Rufus, and that's a whole different thing.

Edit: on a barely related side topic, I can't believe I've been using "Rufus T. Firefly" as the default Kommandant's name in my "test" SH3 careers, when the *obvious" choice was Otis B. Driftwood.

Hmm...

I would have thought Captain Spaulding would be appropriate.

Not with the possibility of "Herr Kaleun Driftwood" floating about.
