Default Enemy Task force!

So I have never caught one....but is that a tip for a capital ship..or a warning for a hunter killer group? Do you chase them or stay away?

In my experience there should be a juicy capital ship. Plenty of escorts and they will be tooling at a good speed. If you can get ahead of them and set up for a right angled attack, then go for it. If you have to catch up to them, good luck. Regardless, be prepared to be pounded by wasserbombs till the cows come home.

Disclaimer: early in the war good shot at sinking a war ship, after 1941, suicide.

Chasing is pretty much out of the question due to the sheer speed of the group. If however, you're able to position yourself out front (along their path), then by all means, pick a capital ship and take your best shot.

Only this is, TF escorts don't fool around, so whatever you do - do it quickly, 'cause they'll be all over you before you know what's going on.

There is no guarantee a TF will include a capital ship.....and in GWX IIRC (don't have my development notes at hand) there is something in the region of a 60% chance it won't.

Some of the TF routes are intentionally short so you will most likely go on the 'chase' only to have it disappear on you (Again, in GWX terms)

So I tried to make it a point to track one down last couple patrols. Can't catch them from behind though, so unless you guess destination right your out of luck. I finally did get a report where it looked like I could get in front. Of course there is pea soup fog, the only way to track was underwater. So I would duck under, get a bearing off the sound contact, pop back up and move to a guessed intercept point of the contact. Trying to avoid sonar, take advantage of my low profile and 300M visability. Somehow I got right in the middle of the formation. I got a quick look at a carrier in the fog at right on 250M, just at the 'safty off' range. Fired two quick hoping to get a lucky hit, the ship disappered in the fog. Both torps hit, I dove, slowed and changed course to match the carrier hoping I had at least slowed it down. I guess I did not because I never saw it again and the task force just kept on sailing, out pacing me quickly. Should have fired a full spread, lesson learned. Looking back, I may have been able to chase on the surface the fog was so thick. Knee jerk reaction to use depth as your best defence I guess. I was never attacked and as far as I could tell the escorts never reacted to the assumed hits on the carrier.
So I guess its a tie, it is intense though, all those war ships looking for you.
