Neither have I, and at this moment in time I don't intend to either

I could give you 99999 reasons why facebook sucks but I won't. I will just give you one example, from my own experience, which made me embark on "the anti-facebook crusade".
Up to a point I did not perceive FB users in a way that I see them now. I just treated them without any bias, the usual way you treat dumb pathetic nerds having nothing better to do than posting their 200 photo collection of "how I combed my hair". You know, these with balls play Mafia (or w/e it's called), and sissies play Farm. I was against all this mess but I did not show that.
Ok, so once I went for a drink with some girl from another group. I knew that she's a FB users, that she used to have an account in a Polish version of FB, and in general, she was fond of similar dumb projects.
After the usual intro-chat about the university we study at, I said smth like: "I don't know" for what she said "Oh, I forgot you don't have Facebook, you are so non-technological...."(i don;t have a cell phone neither but that;s a whole different story). It was like a slap in the face+ "You're a loser"
Ofc things went bad for me...and I was burdened with a new life-time task. Since that traumatic cold February afternoon, I hold a burning torch of an anti-facebook message saying "wake up, freaks".
I treat it as a kinda discrimination and bullying of these ppl who decided to live a peaceful life without saying the world "look, here I am, and here is my ugly face", who decided that they don't need 500 contacts to fap at, who don't need to boast of their new toaster or dildo, who don't find amusing the fact of humiliating others by calling them non-technological only bcoz their de-brained heads can type in facebook.com.
Well, yeah, I drifted a bit from the "why I don't trust FB" topic but I hope that what I've written can compensate for this. That's how I see all this (Jewish)madness (after all Zuckerberg was one of the creators).
I'm waiting for any counterbalancing posts like:
-Yay for Facebook, I found my daughters (actually they found me, bcoz I was too lazy to do anything to find them)
-Yay for Facebook, I found a new BDSM group, I can spread HiV in the rest of laender (a German word, meaning a territorial unit of Germany, bcoz of a Bird which I had in mind while writing this(lol))
-Yay for Facebook, it gives me the impression that real people like me.

Ofc it's a trap. The more arguments you give the stronger my point that FB is a place for ......(no more low blows) becomes.

Disclaimer: this post is to be treated as an ironic one and non-offensive as no real users (lol) were the base for highly fictional characters and events mentioned in my post.

I appreciate the humor, and I'm not offended at all. That said, there's a lot more to it than "too lazy".

On the other hand, in one of your lines you directly violate the swearing rules of these forums. That needs to be deleted immediately. Not *asterisked* or bleeped, but removed entirely.

Hmm, glad to hear that you found no offense in what I've written.

Actually I put there a sequence of random letters to imitate a swear word, unfortunately the censorship system must have recognized this as a real swearing and added asterisks...I will try to edit it....

No, I'm talking about the "You're a loser" line. You left one letter out of one word and got around the bot, but that one's just not acceptable.

Do you know how to tell how many friends a Face Book user has?

Just wait, they will eventually tell you.

I would probably have ended the date right there. Anyone who would judge someone on whether they are or are not a customer... uh I mean product of Face Book is probably not worth hanging around.

Face Book is neither good nor bad. It is a tool. There are other tools that can do the job of Face Book. It can be argued whether Face Book is the best or worst tool for the job. Like any other service, it is not for everyone.

I would imagine that the majority of the people in the US still don't have a Face Book account. I am one of them.

Choosing to use Face Book does not make one a technology-savvy person nor does not choosing to use Face Book make one a technology-Luddite.

To judge someone based on whether they use a specific service on the Internets Tubes is idiotic.

I don't use Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, et. al., for one simple reason: if I really want you to know about the awesome poop I just took, I'll call you up and tell you about it.

This is what your installed Battlefield 3 game sends via Origin, the Battlefield 3 online platform. On the pic you see private data like tax documents and the like, all from various folders of the harddisk, all loaded up to Origin. They are being sued right now, for violating almost all data security rules here in Germany

Just posted this in the BF3 thread after Hunter used that image -

If you hook process monitor onto Origin you will not see Origin scanning anything, independently of how long you use it. So what triggered the OP's screenshot?
Origin on installation will try to find games installed on your harddrive and automatically register them within Origin. It does that in a couple of different ways:
It reads the windows games registry
It looks for games in Program Files
It looks for games in ProgramData (where, for unknown reason the OP's SMS and tax software are storing the data instead of the user profile where that data should go!)
it reads the xfire config if it finds one for games
If you look at the screenshot closely you will see that it does not actually read any files. Instead it looks for their existence and recursively walks the directory. It does not read any of your files, at least not judging from this screenshot or anything I have found on my machine.
Lastly if you monitor the network traffic that Origin causes you will see that it does not transmit anything of value to EA. So far I have not seen anything bug login credentials being submitted.
But it's always so much more fun to assume that software is inherently evil. You can hook a syscall monitor on any application and you will see that it operates all over the drive. That's not something unique to Origin. Steam will do the same if you click the "add non steam game" button.
//EDIT: something I forgot: I think people should not run any sysinternals tools without a basic understanding of what they do or at least not jump to conclusions..
Edit of my own: Oops, I'd written the post in BF3 thread but hadn't posted it, then I closed that tab that had it in. It's there now though.

Shall i provide the german tests and texts on that matter ?
Origin scans the harddisk for any games and sends the contents to Origin, whether it found something or not. In most examined cases, the game has sent private information of the user, including subdirectories with files and all. This is not what i want any program to do. Under german law this is nothing else but Spyware. What would this be called by US law ?
I even believe that Origin does not INTENTIONALLY plans to USE this data for ANYTHING - just like Facebook never would (lol). That the CIA and private organisations meet with the Facebook founders to discuss methods of scraping information is certainly all unintentional.

Certainly not really - there meanwhile companies being paid to create profiles of users using exactly this scraping technology.

Why does a dog lick his balls ? Because he can.
As we have learned the hard way - what can be done will be done.
