Default Music advice

Henry Mancini, Ennio Morricone - what should I say? If you like movies or music or both, nothing more must be said, beside the giants of more classical soundtracks like Goldsmith, Williams and Barry, no compilation of movie composers is complete without these two musical magicans.

I have lost my CD with Mancini music (in fact have misplaced or thrown it away many months ago, I fear), and since it was an MP3-download and I never took the time to make notes of the titles, I simply have no overview on the many pieces by Mancini. If you check Amazon, you will note what a pain it is to make a selection, a choice for just one album giving you the best overview of all his famous pieces and themes.

Same goes for Morricone. Another CD compilation I got as a download and then have lost, without kinowing the titles (original Italian titles, which makes it even worse). I am looking for a compilation of his best and famous pieces and themes from movie and TV, from the Italo Westerns over his stunning Leone/America-soundtrack, to modern TV films.

MP3 albums would be preferred, since it saves plenty of money. Anyone having a tip for a comoilation of 2-3 CDs(^=MP3s)?

And since I am at it, in the 80s, when the first soundtrack album for E.T. was released, there was a solo-piano ending theme on it which then blended into some orchesytral composition, but alsways focussing on the piano. These pieces, if I remember correctzly, never was part of the poriginal movie score to be heared in the movies. Does anyone know what I mean and where I could get it?

Tak, I am putting special hopes on your expertise! You teachv music and once said something like that you have a special interest for soundtracks and think that most people underestimate their importance (something on which I agree).

Google the name and then Discography. You'll have a selection of lists of everything they ever recorded. At least then you can get an overview of what you might want.

Do you realize what you've done? Do either of you have *any* idea how stick-in-your-head-able that is?

I'm sorry, but I must hate you now. BOTH of you. And my gift to you is this:

That is hilarious! The right guy sounds like a bassoon, not like a tuba!

I was doing the initial bass-line, hence the reference to Steve playing it.

Okay, here, Henry will play for you.

Moon River?

You probably know lots of Mancini, but didn't know it was him.

At my work, we have many movie soundtracks and some compilations of film music. I'll see what I can find.

That's right the problem, as I indicated: there are too many titles (which in almost all cases I cannot attribute to the music anyway).

German Amazon for example gives you over 1300 entries for MP3 recordings related to Mancini. The number of albums related to "Morricone" also goes into the hundreds. Much is double recording and foreign recording, but still: both of these two created incredibly many pieces, themes, and albums.

I hoped somebody had a tip for a solid "Best of" with 2 or 3 CDs, a tip relating to the included content as well as the recording's quality.
