Default helo torps???

Okay, I'm the first to admit I'm a noob. I started feeling like I was understanding the operations of a 688i and wanted a little break so I checked out the OHP - and I thought the subs presented a steep learning curve. I got to the point of attacking a contact with a helo, I did so by using a weapons drop waypoint. If I read the manual correctly the torp should run a circle search for the contact. My question is, after the helo reported weapon away shouldn't there have been a torp icon on the NAV map?

Thanks,
sf

Yes, but are you sure the weapon engaged the sub ?
Did you set the depth correctly for the torpedo ?

You can't set those sorts of things for the FFG-controlled helo.

Did you drop it in shallow water? Air dropped torpedoes need a fairly significant amount of depth (say over 100ft or so if dropped by an AI) or they will bury themselves into the bottom and disappear.

It was the Gulf Breakout mission. As I recall it was over 200 feet deep but I'll have to try the mission again and see. Any tips on how to accurately relate ASTAC geoplot to NAV map? It's not hard to do once sonobouys have been dropped but it's hard to drop them near the coast without putting them in water that's too shallow.

I think this will work.

Put marks (the + ) on the Nav Map using the "enter key" and then set your buoy drop waypoints on top of them.

I'm pretty sure that Nav Map marks show up on the ASTAC screen.

Thanks once again. Someday soon we'll have to hook up for a dive (well, most likely a dive for you and a sink for me...)

I do my share of dying... Only takes one torpedo.

Ok, Oneshot, next time you are MPA or helo, I want to see you kill two with one torpedo!

You need to get the weapon-to-kill ratio under 1.0!
