You'll find the manual in the Documentation folder (just below the Data folder).

And if you come across that again, just sink tonnage where you find it and go home when empty (diesel, torps, whatever)

SH3 doesn't seem to care if you go to the prescribed square or not, at least in my experience.

The stock game does actually give you renown for following your orders by going to the assigned grid and patrolling there for 24 hours (but none for returning all the way to base without "teleporting" in, even though it looks like it does in the basic.cfg - that feature never worked).

GWX doesn't give you any renown for going to the assigned grid and completing the 24 hour patrol there, although it's easy enough to mod the rewards back in if you want them.

Either way, though, you don't *lose* any of the renown you already have by disregarding your orders and patrolling wherever you please.

If you are on patrol in August 1939 (before the war starts) the Channel is fine.

Once Britain and France declare war, you enter it at your own risk. It's narrow, it's shallow, and it puts you within easy striking distance of the combined sea/air forces of two enemy nations. It's not impossible to get through, but if you get spotted and run into trouble you're not going to have very many options.

Exactly...

I usually start on 19390901 and make a quick Channel dash before the Western powers enter the fray. Best not dawdle though, as you really don't want to get caught around Dover when the shooting starts.

Avoid shallow water, not just the Channel. That's if you don't want a short career.

On the other hand, if you just want a bit of fun see what you can find in Scapa

On my 3rd patrol have decided for this one to patrol the east coast of Scotland I will lay off the coast of my real life home town and see if I can get some single merchants that way.Nailed a tramp steamer half way acroos the north sea with the deck gun.

Question When I press[ or ] that will turn me either port or starboard but for rudder amidship it says press a key I don`t have on my key board am I missing something. the key looks likw this "`" but it is not that as it does not center my rudder.
