It does a great job of capturing the often tedious, yet grim and nerve-wracking reality all in the same film. Truly an outstanding production.

WELCOME ABOARD!

Which version did you see? Whichever one it was, they all have something to recommend them.

I saw the miniseries version for the first time today. Perhaps a bit much and long for one sitting.

However, the (spoiler alert)

Convoy attack - dive, depth charge, Johann goes mad, repairs, and burning tanker section being over a hour is amazing in the miniseries version. But I think for most cases, I prefer the directors cut.

Though I do need to get in on blue ray, but I will wait till next paycheck, spent way too much money this paycheck.

That, and I was watching it with a friend, and I had warned her that it not a "happy ending film" and she was sure that the poor crew dies at gibraltar.

The actual ending had her screaming at the TV.

im not 100% sure which one it was but it was the German version in Blu Ray, but i was quite disappointed with the last person who had the disc. (got it from netflix) They used it as a cutting board and it had mini cuts on the envelope and the disc itself. But otherwise i've never had a movie that i've actually had me on the edge of my seat before it is quite the movie.

Cool! Only the theatrical (2-1/2 hours) and the Director's Cut (3-1/2 hours) have been on Blu-Ray, so it's certainly one of those two. Whichever one it was, they're all good. I have a friend who didn't last ten minutes past the bar scene because he's claustrophibic and actually started to panic once they were at sea.

This reminds me, I should probably try out the Blu-ray. I was excited about purchasing the film for weeks, bought it the day of release, and then... nothing. I'll have to invite a friend over and force him to view the film with me. (I've no friends who are interested in submarines.)

My boys just got a 3D television so I'm looking forward to seeing if my DVD of the film will play in 3D....he reckons it should.

My first time was bout 3 moths after buying SH3, so maybe August 2005.
Remember my flat mate saw me watching it and he said to me
"The reason you are watching that, is to compensate for the lack of narrative in the Simulator" (meaning SH3.)

Thing is.. he was right .....smart ass!
