Default Help! Flat Sun Fix Not Working. (New Video Card Woes)

Hi all,

Just wondering if I might get a bit of help.

I had to replace my video card and now I have the flat sun bug. However, the flat sun bugfix for GWX isn't working with my rig.

(My new video card is the Nvidia Geforce 8400GS.)

Can anyone point me to a solution and/or a fresh download location for flat sun fixes?

Any help would be appreciated. The golf-ball sun in my game is really annoying.

The boss of GWX can't get a GWX mod to work???

Sorry Todd, couldn't resist. I'm using an ATI card, so I can't be much help. Don't worry, though. Jim should be along fairly quickly, and of course he has all the answers.

first of all, wow, that video card hasnt been made in years. I just replaced my 9600 and even that was outdated by 4 years, yours is at least 5. Id suggest you grab a gtx550 for cheap (about 100$) if you plan on playing anything else, its a good 4 times more powerful at minimum.
secondly, did you get the drivers for it?

Does seem kind of ironic...

But seriously, this post addresses the issue quite nicely:

Good luck!

Didnt even know this was a bug! I have an ati card and this is exactly what the sun looks like if i leave AA switched off in the cards control panel. I always just assumed the game needed hardware AA to be on to create the glowy halo effect around the sun.

No worries, Steve. I wouldn't have been able to resist either.

Yep, my driver's up to date. (Thought that doesn't always mean you are getting the best performance for SH3 since it is an older game... sometimes an older driver may work better.)

My last card was an Nvidia 7600GTO... so this new card is still an upgrade for me. We got what we could afford, and I am lucky to have a new card at all. I had Major back surgery and it left us quite broke.

Heck, I'm happy to just be able to sit at the computer again.

Your post actually caused me to look at my video card settings again and I actually found the fix rather quickly. (Blind luck for sure at my end.)

The fix for me was as simple as turning off AA gamma correction... und VOILA! All fixed! Hopefully, my little issue will help someone else down the road.

Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it!

Oh...so that ISN'T a golf ball? It's meant to be the sun? I see...

Seriously, I didn't know there was a way to fix this. Thanks for posting the link above. I have to go and see how I can set up the NVidia driver in Linux to try and get something other than a golf ball in the sky!
