During biblical days this was common, the apostle Paul dealt with it at Corinth, home of over 1000 temples filled with pagan prostitutes. The new christian converts continued in this tradition, go to temple, pay, have sex with a prostitution. In greek, the archway where the prostitutes hung out was called the fornix, thus came the word fornication. Biblically it means sex with a pagan prostitute, but religion redefined it to include any sexual act they didn't like.
I'm not sure how law can decide the religious intent, but I guess they caught them selling goods. I myself don't see what's wrong with prostitution, all men are required to buy the goods in some fashion. |
