Default Can I be heard while surfaced?

Trying yet again to pull off my first successful convoy raid (March '40, VIIB, east of Hull [yeah, shallow...]). I got a radio report as to the convoy's dir/speed 7 hours ago and am currently running a parallel course 34km from convoy's at flank speed. It would be overly paranoid to traverse 34km submerged at 75rpm I feel, so getting at least 16km from convoy course on surface seems wise. Can I do this at 17kts or should I slow down?

Flank is fine, and you're right - it would be overly paranoid, so we'd probably have to get out the butterfly nets...

You're fine. They can't hear you while your surfaced, you can't hear them while your surfaced.

Just be sure not to let them see the wake produced by running at 17 kn. Adjust your angle constantly to minimize your profile and with luck you can be almost in the convoy without them noticing you... at night, that is.

Happy hunting!

Though watch your sea state. I am told that if you plunge deep enough to pick up hydrophone noise, you are deep enough to be heard. Still, from that distance you should be fine.

Didn't think it'd be west of Hull. You're lucky to get a convoy around those parts, I've only ever seen single, small vessels and they were few and far between... then I found the Atlantic and never went back!

I was 2500m away from escort in broad daylight. Weather was wind 10m/s, overcast and moderate visibility. Hull down of course. Actual convoy was some 6000m away. I tried to get ahead of it to prepare an attack at optimum position.

No it wasn't -39, it was late -41.

Now I miscalculated convoys course and drifted too near to it. Sometimes happens with Hitman's GUI using UZO. Also å¤)*/ =!>%$@ radar makes those escorts hanging around you like those skin crawling blood sucking parasites so common in autunm here in north. Occasionally they flick their search lights too which indicates you are about to experience a world of trouble.

Convoys speed was 7-8 kts which is pretty much hull down "safe" speed near the enemy. I adjusted my speed to 9 kts and mooned the escort to get away from it. No sizeable diffrence in distance. Geared up to 10 kts, ALAAAAAARM! And lots and lots of damage.

Luck didn't favour the bold, this time.

...'east of Hull [yeah, shallow...]). ' .....the sea is full of dead heroes. stay out of the shallows and give you and your crew a sporting chance.

(...yeah, i know its only a game...good luck)

Aslong they don't have Radar, they won't notice you. If you are submerged they will surely find you. And if you get the message "The Enemy is pinging us"

Its almost to late.

Ah. Radar will make such an approach more difficult. In that case, submerged approach...

...and in the north of where? Are you talking about leeches?

Submerged attack of course, but boat have to be maneuvered to good position.

North Europe. Translator gives two options black fly or buffalo gnat. It's very small thus unnoticeable and it sticks to skin, sucks blood and itch like hell.

As it so rarely did. But once you pull your eyes from the screen, wipe your brow, realize you are warm and dry and breathing.....
