Default Silent Running engine Speed

Just a quick question,
Is there any way to alter the silent running speed? I want to set it to 50rpm.
In game silent running defaults to slow ahead speed, is there any other way of altering this other than through the Submarine Cfg file, which would of cause set slow ahead speed to 50rpm all the time, not quite what i'm after.

Any help gratefully recieved.

Actually I would not mind knocking it down a slightly.

If I find a way I will get back but I think some people will already know this.

I want mine to default to 2 knots if possible rather than 3.

Edit

I do not think we can control that without changing the whole slow speed to 2.

I am underwater here.

I have always found that I get better evasions, when I go to 2-1 knots whilst under attack.

Its no big deal, I will just continue to manually do it.

You're right, it probably has to be done manually.

Silent running is connected to slow speed ahead, so if you mod one of the values, you have obviously changed the other.

It's possible to change overall propeller RPM in any sub's or ship's .SIM file using the Mini Tweaker. Not sure what exact effect it has on speed, if any. It might just be cosmetic. I believe this overall RPM value is meant as the RPM when at max speed. I.E., VII-C is 480, at max speed of 17 knots, or when accelerating to 17 knots.

Ahead slow and other speeds are *probably* (makes sense to me, anyway) proportional to this max RPM. Sooo, at 2 knots in a VII-C, having a max speed (knots) of 17, then 2/17 should = 56.4 RPM.

If nothing more, it's something else to check out sometime.

These are the numbers from picture of a plate inside of some type VII(c?) boat.Don't remember the site anymore...

Diesel Fahrt/UPM/Kn

KF/180/7
LF/285/10
HF/350/12
2xHF/390/14
GF/445/16
2xGF/460/16.5
AK/470/16.9
3xAK/480/17.4

E-M Fahrt/UPM/Kn

KF/60/1.6
LF/114/3
HF/167/4.5
2xHF/220/6
GF/257/7
2xGF/275/7.5
AK/298/8
3xAK/--/--

So the "Kleine Fahrt" in submerged really should be lowered. Now it's more like "Langsame Fahrt" and 3 knots, right? I usually control the speed under the "sub" dial where I can order one knot if needed.

Edit. If you look at the slowest speed when running with diesels (7Knots). That is pretty fast speed if you are in harbor area or parking in the sub pen. They used electric engines for this and the reason propably is that the speeds were much lower and the handling of the boat easier. It's a shame that we can't run E_M's when surfaced in this game.

Well I changed mine to run faster on one of my subs, I removed the deck guns and compensated by giving the sub slightly more speed.
I posted this once before, some said it didn't work but it works for me, I just edited the CFG file in the submarine folder like this:

[Unit]
ClassName=SSTypeIXB
HumanPlayable=YES
Interior=data/Interior/NSS_Uboat9/NSS_Uboat9
UnitType=200
MaxSpeed=19.3 ;18.2
MaxSpeedSubmerged=8.4 ;7.3
Length=76.9
Width=6
RenownAwarded=140
Emblem=Ncrest

[Salvo]
1=1,3,2,4
2=1,2,4
3=1,3,4
4=1,4
5=2,3
6=1,3
7=2,4
8=5,6

[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=12;meters
SnorkelDepth=10;meters
CrashDepth=70;meters
MaxDepth=300;meters
SurfaceDepth=5.8;meters
TorpLaunchMaxDepth=20;meters
StormConditions=99,1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]
Emblem=true

[EngineProperties]
AllStop=0.00
AheadSlow=0.50 ;0.40
AheadOneThird=0.67 ;0.57
AheadStandard=0.90 ;0.80
AheadFull=1.00 ;0.94
AheadFlank=1.05 ;1.00
BackSlow=-0.27 ;-0.26
BackStandard=-0.50 ;-0.40
BackFull=-0.63 ;-0.53
BackEmergency=-0.76 ;-0.66

I kept the old settings after the ; mark in case I wanted to revert back.

That's a good idea Col. How did you figure out the new speeds? Does your boat have a longer underwater range now due the smaller drag?
Also, removing your appr. 1.5 ton deckgun + maybe 3000 Kg's ammunition, should it be enough weight reduction to give you over 1 knot faster surfaced speed? I understand the submerged, but surfaced? From the displacement of (IXB) - 1,051 tons (1,178 tons submerged), 4.5 tons ain't much. It's like the weight of 3 days diesel consumption.

Just a thought.

Hi Krupp,

I didn't know what speeds to go up to really, I thought if I just up it slightly then it might be OK.
I do get, as I say SLIGHTLY more speed, it does come in handy but sometimes I miss the deck-gun but with the rough seas I suppose it is a bit more real.

Thanks for some interesting answers guys.
Here's another thought, as setting 1knot (50rpm) manuallly in a VIIC when submerged is shown as "All Stop", does this mean in game the engines are undetectable by hydrophone as they are "stopped"?
Or is it just detctable range is much reduced?

I always dive to 150m's, silent run and 50rpm (as in "Das Boot") in an attempt to lose my persuer's but does this have any advantage at all i wonder?
I dont know, but it sure makes for fun with 100% realism settings, ie, no external cameras.
