A bit off topic perhaps but just a note on the importance of the Manos Scopes -

I can't use Manos scopes - so I am stucking using the regular periscopes when using RAOFB method - which i generally use if I come upon a ship that I havent been able to track with hydrophones using the regular 4 bearing method - or to check my speed and aob calculations - or in a convoy that I have already attacked and all the ships have started evasive manuevers. Even with the stock periscopes I usally find the method very useful and fairly accurate.

However -where i think it does make a difference is where that extra bit of accuracy is required - at long range or if the ship is heading away from you and the AOB is a negative figure. I almost always miss in this situation - as someone said earlier you can basically kissi it goodbye if its at this solution and at 15 knots or greater.

Anyway - Im just trying to make the point that the RAOFB method can certainly be used without Manos scopes (and generally used very effectively if you are careful) - but yes it seems to me that its not 100 per cent accurate - for all the times folks talk about the game being too easy and not realistic enough I think this actually adds an extra dimension of immersion - surely it wasnt as easy as it is in game to target ships (even at 100 percent realism as I play)??

Stoianm, I really appreciate your SH5 Youtube videos. I've watched a lot of them and I'm working through more of them to get better at SH5.

However, in the one quoted below, as well in the text, I believe you have a couple of mistakes.

1. In the first formula for AOB you have Aro/Arr when you should have Arr/Aro.

The ratio Arr = horizontal marks/vertical marks will always be smaller than or equal to (if on the target's beam) Aro = Ship Length/Ship mast so you need to use the ratio Arr/Aro.

2. If the contact is heading away from you, its AOB is:

AOB = 180 degrees - value from AOB slide ruller

That's because the ratio you calculate is the sine of the AOB:

sine AOB = Arr / Aro = sine (180 degress - AOB)

These are called supplementary angles (they add together to equal 180 degrees and their sines are equal).

The AOB is either the arcsine (inverse sine function return values from -90 to +90 degrees) of the ratio Aro/Arr (if approaching) or its supplementary angle (if moving away):

AOB = arcsine (Arr / Aro) [approaching]

AOB = 180 degrees - arcsine (Arr / Aro) [moving away]

where your slide rule takes the ratio as a percentage and gives the arcsine.

3)How to add all the data in the TDC and how and when to fire your torpedoes
4)How to use AOB slide ruller to find AOB
5)How to use Navigator abilities to calculate the speed of a ship
5)This methode is the most fast and acurate methode that i tested so far in SH5 using Real nav, Manual TDCand Realism 100%
6)The time that we need to find all the data (range, course, AOB, and speed) for a ship or a convoy it takes less than 2 minutes
6)In this methode we will do less ploting on the map and we will use more visuals methodes

To play in this manner you need to have installed this mods:

1)NewUIs_TDC_6_4_0_ByTheDarkWraith or Magnum Opus

2)NewUIs_TDC_6_4_0_Real_Navigation

3)AOB slide ruller for TDW UIs and MO by stoianm ===>> DOWNLOAD

AOB=(Aro/Arr)*100===>> read value in AOB slide ruller

Arr = horizontal marks/vertical marks (use RAOFB to obtain the marks - i recomand Manos scopes from TDW UIs)

Aro = Ship Lenght/Ship mast (use the SOAN to find these values)

If the ship is heading to your direction than AOB = value from AOB slide ruller
If the ship is heading away to your direction than AOB = value from AOB slide ruller + 90 degrees

I'd just like to take the time to thank you, Stoianm, for having made so many tutorials covering so many aspects of playing SH5 on full realism. They have been extremely informative, entertaining, and helpful.

Iam sure that the painstaking method of AOB and getting your data is boring .. It takes to Much time to track your target witout consistant accuracie .. did our U boat kaluens feel the same ?

both videos are running in Germany.

But the following Video is not running in Germany:

if I want to watch that video, youtube tells me: "This Video is in your country not available." as you can see here:

Do you have any idea, why the video "How to configure and install Magnum Opus megamod for SH5 part 2-3.mkv" in Germany is not available?

But I really would like also to watch part 2-3.mkv. What can I do now?

Thanx in advance 4 your help!

Maybe try to download these vids? By YTD YouTube Downloader & Converter http://www.youtubedownloadersite.com/ After that you can watch and even convert flv files to avi.
Strange I saw this video (Poland) and I really don't know what is the reason. Some stupid restrictions

It's only a guess, but is the Nazi flag displayed in the video? Prehaps in the bunker or as the sub's flag? I believe it's forbidden in present day Germany.

I tought that was a reason too - but no. In this vids stoianm showed JSGME and the desktop. There is no any signs. Have a look on the thumbnail at the bottom (8:49).

Does anyone have another link.

And why is it blocked by Sony?

Default Problem with pictures in most of the tutorials

Most of the various tutorials that I can access here on SUBSIM have pictures which seem not to show in the area inside the frame where the picture should be as all black, i.e., no picture. These excellent tutorials are less than helpful without their accompanying images.

I've talked to the chief engineer of my boat but he hasn't a clue as to what to do.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the pictures back in the tutorials?

Thanks,
Quink
