There is also the excellent Sharpe mini-series.

Not that it isn't great, but if we're going to include fictional minseries I could make a very long list. I think he's looking at shows based on real people.

Also, Sharpe, like the likewise excellent Hornblower series, isn't really a miniseries as much as a series of movies grouped together under a common heading.

I enjoyed the series, however I never made it to watch the last episode in one part. Somehow it never got me, the pace was much slower, much less things seemed to happen.
Apparently Steve felt the same, as he never reviewed the 6th episode

What I found really cool, is how they tried to reproduce the language spoken at that time. The accent was still clearly British, but you could notice the first signs of American English. Sounded very believable.

Has anybody read the book "1776" by the same author? If it's as good as the mini series, it might be worth a read.

1776 is a great book. Riveting. I could hardly put it down.

I hear ya about the end of John Adams though. It's just depressing to see him slowly deteriorate. IMO it would have been a better series to expand the early part of his life and spend less time talking about his sunset years.

Yes, maybe was the detoriation which put me off a little. Unfortunately it happens to most people when they become old, so this is a part of life, but imo it didn't contribute much to the story.

And I will check out "1776".

Not really. I just forgot, and by the time I realized I had forgotten so much time had passed that I didn't think it would be cool to go back and finish it.

I think you should immediately post your review of the 6th episode. It was crucial to the story and was one of my favorite episodes.

But that means I'd have to go back and watch it again.

Hmm...

My biggest disappointment was with the tiny amount of time spent on his presidency, and the 1796 and 1800 campaigns. Those were fun, and they just ignored the subject. Second biggest was the guy who played John Quincy. He was fine, but at the end when he was president he just didn't look old enough, despite the baldness and white hair.
