It is OLC and observation screen only. You can see the attack scope in first pic and the view is much smaller and then the RAOBF narrows the view way down again. It seems that OLC only had this larger view for the observation scope for early version as it is smaller in later versions yet larger still than the attack.I think large view for both scopes would allow easier measuring and be more realistic to boot.Pop up panels as in the ob scope would probably be best as you mentioned.Tons more work for Makman though and sadly he has done all the work already for the upcoming HAHD GUI.

I don't want to say it will be "easy," but you/we could try combining the two mods...

Looks kinda like SH4?
I went digging around the menu_1024_768, and that seems to be where all the buttons and things live, so I started messing around in there to see what I can't do... Simple stuff first (the "night" overlay), then I'm going to try to start moving things to the attack scope screen...
It looks like a simple folder-type architecture, cut and paste stuff.
I will need to find the early versions of OLC gui and/or get something that can modify .tga's properly (i can't get irfan to do transparency...)

Sounds most excellent! Why not use Magui as the base as its built off of OLC?

x12 is not historically correct but i am just sharing the mods i make with you and in my game i needed (for many reasons but the most serious is allready be written at this thread by subsimers ) one more powerfull zoom . anyway, getting rid of it is very easy (look at MaGui's thread ) and make them historically correct

bye

hi Wolfstriked , i had allready answered you (with a detailed reply) for all these about FOV,zooms and SCOPE'S DIAMETERS ! but i am afraid that you still haven't figured out clearly what exactly are fovs ,zooms and diameters and how all these are involved . anyway back then you were asking something about a larger fov ...now i see that what you are really saying is a larger (much larger) diameter of scope .if you go back at my reply you will read my opinion about this so why you are asking me the same thing again ?
speaking for larger diameters ,i had made at past a very 'big' scope ,it was at MaGui v3 . look the pics to see how it was but also read the changelog of MaGui to see why i left it behind . btw, playing the game with it is not how it looks from pics for reasons that i have allready told you :

now ,to see why the bigger (at diameter) scope will not give you so much better resolution at ship look at attack scope of MaGui v3 (following pic) and compare it with the first pic (obs scope) . ship is 'sitting' at exactly the same distance :

ps : ''....and sadly he has done all the work already for the upcoming HAHD GUI...''

be sure that the job at u-boot-hahd gui is the best i can offer

bye

Hey Makman,I just wanna say that I love your work and if I post something be sure I am posting it with respect to you and same with any modders work I use.I have been playing around with the scopes so now I do understand what FOV is and what scope diameter is.You are correct in that I am asking for larger diameter of scope view.I do remember your reason for the smaller diameter view being that you want to give the feel of looking thru a scope and larger diameter ruins this.I guess this is a personal thing then as I still feel the larger diameter view is better.Fullscreen is too much and ruins the look and feel of looking thru a scope but I think the larger diameter scope you made is a good balance.

Either way, just disregard my requests and keep doing what your doing.

Thanks, bro I just went digging thru there, and I'm going to go back for MaGui 3 for more amazing modding fun ideas

@Makman,
Thank you very much for your work, bro. I can't wait to see HAHD in all its glory. I wish I could chip in, but I have to do my "homework" first...
BTW, what image editing software do you recommend for .tga's?

(that last question for everyone else, too)

Self-reply!
I found a freeware program called Gimp, it requires a special thing to run in windows, but it's easy to find in google. Gimp claims to have all the functionality of photoshop, so we'll see. I already tested the alpha channel in it, and it can save transparency
Next stop, trying to make a scope! :P

I'm going to try to make it about the size of the obs. in OLC 1.2.1 (as pictured below). I'm also seeing if I can't find the earlier version of Magui with the large obs. scope to get a look at that.
For right now, I'll probably just use an existing obs. scope screen, and modify the cam file and some buttons to make it useable until I can really mash something together.
Fair warning, there's only one computer in the house, and I have to share it with someone else every day, so progress will be slow...

Yer' welcome

I do remember that the big obs scope in OLC was really nice to use. For me it was more immersive, but I can see how that would be a personal thing. It also increases the magnification of the image while retaining the historic field of view - pretty cool.

Take your time and enjoy the work - there are a lots of mods making steady progress here, and we're all very happy that tinkerers seem to love SHIII.
