Well, if all this topic has done is show me two potentials for my ignore list that's a good thing er..?

Disaffected poor, freebooters... all part of the recession package, nothing to see here.

Meanwhile what may have been important as regards this story developing, is lost in the general furore, bit like parts of this thread really

I'm not wanting to be drawn into anything of a controversial nature on this thread because it does need moderating but whatever your opinions of him are..
Opinions seem to be confused, in very short order its gone from ....why is he on holiday, cut his head off, why has he come back from holiday

It's completely out of control now, the police are outnumbered and overstretched. Incredible...absolutely incredible...this must dwarf any previous London riot in terms of scope. If this continues into a fourth night the Met riot squad are going to be a desperate need of reinforcements, this is just too widespread for them to respond to every single flare up...and even when they do respond the rioters just melt away before they can be arrested.

I can scant believe it.

I personally think there should be at the very least a military presence now,the country is practically under siege!,and it needs lifting,by force of arms.
Whats your take on this idea?

A chief inspector for the Met commented a while ago saying that CCTV footage they had of offenders would aid them in making arrests.Tell me,how do you go about making arrests against idiots wearing hoods and ski masks?,their identities are concealed.
I fully support the police in their almost impossible role here but I thought that statement was a bit odd.

Not all of them are wearing masks, this one isn't:

A step on a very slippery slope, that's my take, the road to hell is paved with good intentions mate, and if you bring in martial law, that's going to only inflame the situation further. Plus, most of our military is overseas at the moment anyway, so the only real forces we could muster are the TA.

I would wager that tomorrow during the daytime there is going to be a massive influx of police forces from across Britain into London, as there was during the G-20 protests, and then there's the possibility of a curfew being put in place officially tomorrow. There's also the possibility of water cannons being brought in from Ireland. I'd wager that the government will not bring in the armed forces, but they will go all they can up to before that point.
Besides, there's not a great deal the army could do anyway, even if they opened fire on looters, they would melt away into the side streets and go somewhere else. You ask any soldier what it's like trying to fight in a city environment, particularly when you'll have your hands tied up in red tape because it's the capital city of the UK, it would be a nightmare and would do very little to actually stop it unless you take a Syrian approach to matters and open fire on anything that moves and when we get to that point, well we're no longer worthy of being a modern nation.

Hopefully this will burn itself out tonight and tomorrow will be peaceful...but I'll be interested what conclusions this COBRA meeting comes to...I just hope that they don't use this situation for political gain and just make things worse...although I suspect, given this political party...they probably will.

Obviously not....."Good god,its like the blitz all over again!". .......a few burned buildings and vehicles, no sign of nazi bombers destroying whole swathes of the city and no big piles of dead bodies being pulled from the rubble

One or two others have made references to these events and the blitz today, did you ridicule their posts too?.Or is it because I have a great viking longship on my sig and you dont
NOTE - the blitz reference was related to the amount and scale of these fires which would infact remind a lot of war survivors of the blitz, not a reference to the Luftwaffe or swathes of corpses piled in the streets.God you love to twist things around and undermine serious stuff. This is a VERY serious situation now and ridicule on ANY level no matter how indirect is not appropriate.I am actually surprised that someone hasnt pulled you to one side about some of your comments and for baiting me earlier, trolling do they call it?.
But I guess i'm trolling right now so i'd better stop with this tone.
