Crash Dive Mod ?
In between patrols I was looking through some old mods in have on my hard drive and came across the Crash Dive Mod by Venatore. The "Read-Me" states that it's compatible with GWX 2.1. Does anyone know if this is compatible with GWX 3.0. I frequent shallow waters and 70meters is play'n it kind'a close. thanx

I'm not familiar with the mod but I thought there was something you could edit in one of the game files to change the depth the LI automatically levels off at when you order a crash dive.
![]() Aha, this is the text of NSS_Uboat2A.cfg from the data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat2A folder: [Unit] ClassName=SSTypeIIA HumanPlayable=YES Interior=data/Interior/NSS_Uboat2/NSS_Uboat2 UnitType=200 MaxSpeed=13.0 MaxSpeedSubmerged=6.9 Length=40.9 Width=4.1 RenownAwarded=110 [Salvo] 1=1,3,2 2=1,2 3=1,3 4=2,3 [Properties] PeriscopeDepth=10.5;meters SnorkelDepth=8;meters CrashDepth=70;meters MaxDepth=300;meters SurfaceDepth=5;meters TorpLaunchMaxDepth=16;meters StormConditions=7,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1] [EngineProperties] AllStop=0.00 AheadSlow=0.40 AheadOneThird=0.57 AheadStandard=0.80 AheadFull=0.94 AheadFlank=1.00 BackSlow=-0.26 BackStandard=-0.40 BackFull=-0.53 BackEmergency=-0.66 Note the bolded text... wait until someone who knows for sure confirms it, but I'm guessing if you edited the number in that line in each u-boat's .cfg file it would do the trick. |

IIRC the Venatore Crash Dive mod came with variable depth settings so players could customize based on their preferred playing style/patrol areas. As for GWX 3 compatibility, I don't foresee a problem there as the mod only changes specific boat configuration files.

Agreed....as long as the sub classes aren't changed.

That is the line I change when I know I will be operating in shallow waters and 80 meters is way to deep. Usually set it to 30 meters. Always do this in between Patrols, not during.

It may be compatible, but it's hardly realistic.

Sailor Steve, Like i stated in another post, "i love your personals rules" and i value your opinion. Why is a, say, 40meter or 50meter crash dive unrealistic. was 70meters the rule of thumb ? Or is that unrealistic too ? Did they crash dive untill the commander desided to level off ? I would do the later ( level off at my discresion ) except, once in a patrol, I crashed dived, and on my way to 70meters, I hit the "A" to level out and my boat got all crazy on me. I tried it a 2nd time and same thing. So I went to the forums here and I believe I read something about a "crash dive bug" and that you should let the boat finish the crash dive to 70meters, then make your course and depth ajustments.

Here's the problem: When you order, say, "Periscope Depth", the ballast tanks are flooded to as near neutral bouyancy as possible, and the dive planes pointed down just a little. The boat dives to about 20 meters and then is trimmed and brought back up to periscope depth. The procedure can take a couple of minutes or more.
But when you order "Crash Dive" the enginges are placed on flank speed, the tanks are fully flooded, the water is pumped to the forward trim tank, the off-duty crew rushes to the forward torpedo room (if Das Boot and some German reports are to be believed) and the planes are put on full dive. The boat is now getting under and going down as fast as is humanly and mechanically possible. In order to pull out of this extreme dive the planes must be set to an up position, the trim tanks must be equalized (and we're talking about shifting some 50 tons of water) and the ballast tanks must be blown out. I read somewhere (I hate that phrase, but it's the best I've got at this point), and I suspect the devs did too, that 70 meters / 200 feet is about the best that can be expected in that situation. It's like the difference between letting the nose of an airplane settle or pushing it into a full dive. There is no in-between, at least as far as I know.

So basically. After the crash dive the boat would be at about 70meters by the time it was leveled off. thanx Jerry

That's my impression. I don't, however, have anything absolute that I can show in writing.

Me neither but I have a similar impression....when a crash dive was ordered to lets say 70 meters work on trimming the boat would commence well before the desired depth was achieved.
