A show was aired on National Geographic(US) about the drug subs it had a 2011 air date but I am pretty sure they aired the same show a year or so before and added more to it because they (new material not in the older version) showed the first full blown true sub found and not the semi-submersibles this one was like a modern diesel boat it could stay under and even had a snorkel system equipped. The DEA agent said that there is very strong evidence that Russians are helping build and design these newer subs. This thing even had A/C in it! A Colombian naval officer said that it was roughly similar to a WWII era submarine though only diving to about 30 feet but that is all they really need.

The hard part is that they are put together in very rural swamp regions of Pacific Colombia that officials ca not penetrate they have to rely on informants to even find these build sites.

Even if those things are noisy and all they are hard to spot and if you had enough some are going to get through those things are a real problem to say the least.

Link to an article about this new type:http://cgblog.org/2011/02/16/new-typ...b-a-snot-boat/

notice that is has a set of digital cameras for observation much like any modern sub. They look to me to be a lot like a mixture of a good WWII mini-sub and a coastal sub.The one
on the show looked much like this one but they showed the inside it had all you'd need so I ma guessing that article is somewhat speculation as the DEA agent and Colombians where shown in front of an electric motor in the show.

I am going to try and find the show I am talking about on you tube so you guys can see.

Here it is at the end of this clip rather impressive when you consider where it is being built.

a little unnerving when you consider who might put something like this to use.
