Escaping Destroyers

When you sunk the carrier, the mission of the destroyers does not end like that in real life. Destroyers main purpose is to hunt and kill submarines. The best advice is for you to try all measures to evade them or kill them if you are able to do so.

? That doesn't really help me, obviously there not going to stop hunting me after I've sunk there carrier. What I'm asking is what tactics are there to loose the destroyers.
