Well, when I crashed, I think the distance to land was at least 100 kilometers. However since ticking off the readonly attributes of all SH3 related files and save game files I have had zero save game crashes. I don't use SH3Weather anymore either.

Glad that you got it straightened out.
That sort of thing can do a number on the nerves.

Yea, most definetely! I used to be a nervous wreck everytime I started to load a save. Now it's becoming more like: "I'm tired, I think I'll call it a day, save the game and continue tomorrow". No more: "I'm tired, but I can't save safely, so I better leave that convoy alone and sail back to home port, teleporting or DC 4096."

This was the fix for the uncontrolled crash dive. If you care to, search for the original postings by theluckyone17, otherwise this is the essence in what he found.

I diff'd/compared the campaign files, and here are the results:
Corrupted Campaign_LND.mis:
Line 11: Fog=0
Line 17: WindHeading=193
Line 18: WindSpeed=0

Working Campaign_LND.mis:
Line 11: Fog=3
Line 17: WindHeading=4
Line 18: WindSpeed=6

Corrupted Campaign_RND.mis:
Line 11: Fog=0
Line 17: WindHeading=193
Line 18: WindSpeed=0

Working Campaign_RND.mis:
Line 11: Fog=3
Line 17: WindHeading=4
Line 18: WindSpeed=6

Corrupted Campaign_SCR.mis:
Line 11: Fog=0
Line 17: WindHeading=193
Line 18: WindSpeed=0

Working Campaign_SCR.mis:
Line 11: Fog=3
Line 17: WindHeading=4
Line 18: WindSpeed=6

Edit: Corrected file names.

I've found the "cause" of the CRASH DIVE problem.

If "WindSpeed" is = to "0"

It looks like the SH3 Game engine can't deal with 0 windspeed.

Have tested this a number of times. As long as windspeed is 1 or greater it works fine.

Funny thing is that I've never saved when windspeed was 0. I've had crashes mainly when I saved in heavy weather and high winds. Still, I looked at the campaign files and they were indeed all 0. I followed your instructions and will test soon.

Never had the uncontrollable crash dive problem personally but if the above is correct then that is a valuable piece of information to a bug that has frustrated so many over the years
