Default How can i add the Steinbarsch Walter Torpedo?Need help!

Searching around the torpedo_sim file i've seen the data for this torpedo.
I've made a Search on this forum, hoping someone had already modded it,but i found nothing.
The only relevant info i've found:
It seems there is a 3Dmodel for this torpedo in-game.
I will be glad to use it,if someone can help me...
Many thanks

Yep, the mystery 11 torpedo "Stone Perch' Is that ihis name?. It is not in game, but was a real torpedo.

I seen someone clone ships, so you can clone this object too? Sergbuto had a tutorial on how to do it..

Seems...complicate :hmm: (I'm too lazy)

Thanks anyway.

re-post:

You can always replace one of the torpedos you do not use much in game (such as maybe the worthless T-2) with the same values as that "Walter Turbine" torpedo, and copy over any renown and availability data.

Change the T-3 to include the T-2 era. Or replace one of the FAT I or II torps pretty much worthless also.

Thus a simple way to have the infamous torpedo in game. Be sure to know if it was a 'bubble free' torp (needs an electric model to substitute for).

BTY: TimeTraveler's new tool is great! :P What a time saver for changing those myrad of values. And it is good for the 'hex disabled' modders out there.

UPDATE: That torp used the expermental Hydrogen Peroxide to use as an oxidizer for the fuel. it was tried on under water submarines to acheive much power underwater. I do not know if it produced water bubbles or not. If it did, then is was not much better in performance than the T-1 steam torpedo.

I use 'em too (T2's), no matter what the wartime period; usually loaded with 50% T2's & 50% T1's.

Btw I still use a T2 patch to fix proper range, (T2RangeMod.rar) as the v1.4b/patched T2 still wouldn't travel 5000-meters.

I wonder if late-war torpedoes were made stronger (more explosive power) as time passed, and if they'd be modeled in SH3.

True. In game they are not suppose to. Only the T-3 get the full range.

Old post:

did several testing of the early year model T2 electric torpedo.

This is also in the torpedo.zon file. The T2 SPEED is only 28 knots @ 3000m.

It is the old crappy cold torpedo T2 which gets replaced with the better later in the war T3 that is at 30 knots for 5000m.

Else, your shots will miss behind the ship. It is really only 28 knots for the early T2 electric.

Of course, unless they changed this in patch 1.4. Only the description (30 knots @ 1.8 km) was wrong. It was actually (28 knots @ 3000m) correct in game mechanics.

I need to check this again for 1.4b. I need to see if the torpedo.zon file was changed. Go shoot two torpedos (yes there is a lag between firing them in a salvo) T2 and T3, measure the distance and time for each.

You will see the T2 is only moving at 28 knots, and the T3 moves at 30 knots. This will cause a miss at medium distance 1500m for small targets...or not hit the spot you want for that One Torp Kill.

-----------------------------------Torpedo.sim

The T-2 is only 28kt @ 3000m in game patch 1.4

The better T-3 is 30kt @ 5000m in game patch 1.4

I have tried to get this understood. The T-2 moves slower and is only 3000m range.

*******
In reality the T-2 and T-3 were the same, T-3 just got a magnetic influence detector added.

In game, this is what they use. I seen all sorts of values for ranges for T-2 and T-3.[/quote]

Check this excellent read. The Torpedo from T-2 to T-3a went through increasing range and performance. So I guess use what you believe.
------------- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G7e
G7e/T2
The T2 model of the G7e was in service with German U-boat fleets from the first day of WWII. In stark contrast with the G7a steam driven torpedo, the T2 left no visible stream of bubbles to alert ships they were under attack, and was virtually silent. However, these were the T2's only advantages over the G7a torpedo. The T2 in all other respects preformed abysmally when compared to the G7a. Its range was much shorter than the G7a's at only 3000 m, and it ran much slower at 30 kt (55 km/h).

Poor range and speed were not the T2's only problems. Both of its exploders were terribly flawed. The magnetic influence mechanism, designed to allow the torpedo to run under the keel of a ship and detonate, breaking the ship's back, was totally inconsistent; often a T2 would detonate prematurely, or not at all. This lead the BdU to order all G7e/T2 torpedos be fired only for contact detonation. However, the contact pistol of the T2 often did not work, either. The depth-keeping equipment of the T2 often failed as well, leading T2s to miss their targets by running too deeply under a target. Estimates of the failure rate of T2 torpedos for one reason or another range between 20% and 40%.

However, the German Navy, after much prodding by German Sub Command (BdU), poured resources into correcting the T2's flaws. Gradually, it improved, and by the end of the Norwegian Campaign problems with the contact exploder and depth-keeping gear had been solved, as well as significant strides made in improving the magnetic proximity feature. At the same time, the T2's range was increased from 3000 m to 5000 m and eventually 7500 m. By that time, however, the T2 was already being phased out of production.

[edit]
G7e/T3
Improvements in the design of the G7e/T2 lead directly into the production of the next model of electric torpedo for Germany's U-boat fleet. Introduced in 1942, the T3 represented a vast improvement over the early T2. The faulty exploders the T2 were scrapped in favor of a new design.

The T3 had a range of 5000 m and could achieve 30 kt (about fifty percent slower than standard British and American torpedoes). With the improved of the T3 and the new exploder, the G7a steam torpedo was totally superseded and rarely used for the remainder of the war. Using the T3's perfected proximity feature, U-boat captains could effectively fire under the keel of a ship and break the back of their targets with a single torpedo, increasing the overall effectiveness of the U-boat fleet. The T3 could be fitted with both the FAT and LUT pattern running systems for convoy attacks.

Though many opportunities had been missed due to the defects of the T2 torpedo, with the new T3 U-boats were deadlier than ever.

I have many career, and i'm using every boat in game.
The same goes for the year.I go from '40 to '44 with the various career.
I've made everything but,no matter what i do,i dont have those blasted fish in base.
With my '44 career i can select any torpedo (from TI to the Zaun. II) but the G7ut is not here

Thanks Jungman, for some good, solid data on the T2, and other torpedoes.

To me it seems the early-war torpedoes (year's 1939/1940+) in SH3 don't fail nearly as much as they did in real life. It seems like they should fail enough times to 'crave' for the newer T-III, and beyond.

It'd be neat if there's enough torpedo-data to model more realistic failures in the early-war torpedoes. There's no mod that I'm aware of.

Oh well, with any torpedo type, 99% of the time I use impact-pistol at around 2 meter depth, and am rarely more than 1000-meters from any target.

I'm going to make it point to try some longer range shots, maybe out to 3/4000 meters. :|\
