The Beatles 'Every Little Thing', 1964.

Incredible cover by Yes, 1969.

comes to mind as probably my favorite cover of the original.

Then there's of course pretty much every cover ever made from Iron Maiden's
music.

Tried to remember that one, thanks.

Social Distortion, "Ring of Fire":

And of course the original, by Johnny Cash:

Love the original, love the cover. One is an undisputed classic by an undisputed class act, and the other... there's something about the energy of Social Distortion's version that really makes it come alive all over again.

Edit: and not to be outdone in the cover department, here's Johnny doing his take on Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage":

(And the original: )

As much I loved Chris Cornell in his prime, I almost gotta go with Johnny on this one.

Well then of course Johnny's version of 'Hurt' must be named here.
(Actually the first song that popped in my mind when I saw this topic title)

Ok, lets begin with

Patty Smith - Because the night

It is not really a cover, because he wrote the song for her, but I like his version:

Bruce Springsteen - Because the night

I've always wanted an opportunity to promote Bad News (some of The Young Ones/Comic Strip Presents) and they do a cracking version of Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman

Herr-Berbunch Advisory - Bad language

They also did Bohemian Rhapsody which isn't quite as good.

Both produced by Brian May
