He's gonna resign.

This is a good thing. The trouble with him was NOT "sexting." It is that doing so is a huge character flaw given that he's married (marriage is a public vow of fidelity, so it is dishonorable to violate it). Also, it's a serious security and transparency issue.people in Congress are privy to sensitive information, as well as decisions regarding spending. Someone with a secret life is very vulnerable to extortion. The fact he kept lying, even after he admitted stuff shows how easy it would have been to extort him... "vote our way on the finance bill and we'll not go public."

Agreed. I think the lying did him in far more than the activity. Marriage vows certainly are sacred in my opinion, but that's an issue for him and his wife to resolve. His problem stems from the fact that he knew he screwed up and, over what is ultimately quite petty, he became so emotionally invested in the lie that he was vulnerable to coercion.

Maybe other than this misstep Weiner is squeaky clean - but should we risk it? I say no, and I'm happy he's resigning.
