Thanks for your help. I already deleted the one that was in "My Documents."

Well, I got past the modding error message I was getting, and now I'm at the next setup/installation page. However now its telling me

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\silent hunter 3\JoneSoft.txt

An error occurred while trying to read the source file: The source file is corrupted.

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation."

My lack of computer skills is frustrating

JK07 - that is a text file describing the Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler - try to click "Ignore" and see if the rest procedes smoothly, you can always read that file later after all, and all the info is here on the forum (or I can email you the text file).

I suspect that it will say the same thing about the next few files as well, and no doubt they will be something important so don't Ignore those unless you know what they are - but it is worth a try on this one!

Let us know how it goes.

You were right. It continues to pop up for the subsequent files as well.

I've been searching the forums for someone with this problem in the past, but no luck so far.

Damn.

I have a starforce-free CD version so have never had to install GWX onto a Steam version before, not sure what could be causing the problem other than a corrupted download of GWX.

Just to check - have you used a program to check the downloaded GWX files are not corrupted - eg: http://www.winmd5.com/ which is freeware?

In with the GWX.exe and .bin files there is one called GWX.md5.md5 - try to open that and it should say Windows cannot open this file etc - choose the option to tell Windows how to open it (that is on Win7, on XP you can right click and choose "Open with.." if I remember correctly) - then choose Notepad and you should see a list like this:

9570f781cf01bab3f62ba4c1f9004752 *GWX3.exe
26d9990cb1c0432dcc842e7944527716 *GWX3-1.bin
bc5ff15ef32aea5e3c32d7e13444eab7 *GWX3-2.bin
3f05acc6c52d2ba3d85b6355943d3fad *GWX3-3.bin
d047a888f99633e9e612245feb9b790c *GWX3-4.bin
dee9928fa1988e256f0adabfee956371 *GWX3-5.bin
b723696a596633c32079d1f28746cca1 *GWX3-6.bin
2126d073454513a3bb27777e38ef907f *GWX3-7.bin

Now if you open the winmd5 program you downloaded from the link I posted and click on the top button which says "Browse" then point it to the GWX.exe file first, check the MD5 "checksum" (string of gibberish numbers and letters to us normal folk!) to make sure they match the ones in the MD5 file - or in my post of course! Do this for each of the GWX-1.bin -2.bin etc files til you have checked each one.

If any of them do not match then your download is corrupted and you need to grab GWX again from their website.

Let us know what you find out - and good luck!

Stokey

I'm a newb who started with GWX, never played stock at all. Can't say I regret the decision.

It's hard, but then, I chose to go near-full realism right out of the gate (I leave on event cam, since I need to see what's happening while I learn). I've added some other mods that give me more tools for plotting and calculating (OLC Gold, ACM+ACM Lite map).

GWX has a lot of optional mods with it, an amazing manual, plus many of the other mods I've seen in the downloads section are either compatible or built specifically for it.

GWX seems similar in concept to the Complete mods for the STALKER games. Those are basically super-vanilla. They fix the bugs, add features that should have been in the game but weren't due to time constraints or whatever (or could have been but weren't due to limitations of technology or whatever), and pretty it up a whole bunch. They're kind of like the game as it should have been, had the developers had infinite time and money.

Any STALKER players here? Does that comparison fit?

Can I just say at this point and for future reference that there have been some reports of problems from people who have downloaded the files from our website and as such those files on my FF site (link above my sig) are now considered the only official files that are safe.

Righty-ho - just to let you know that I downloaded the GWX3.0 torrent file instead of the installer (probably from your FF Jim but I honestly cannot remember) and have been seeding it ever since.

That works a treat for anyone who is familiar with using a torrent client and was super-fast compared to a direct download (I maxed my connection all the way through!).

It will also always be seeded whilst my PC is on and right now it has 20 seeds so I suspect a fair few other GWXers feel the same way

Aye, rgr that and cheers.

I'm also seeding GWX3.0 single file exe as well as the 8 file version and GWX2.0 and 2.1.

The more the merrier.

Default The Greywolves SuperMod

Hi Everybody

I have this annoying problem of installing the Grey Wolves Supermod on my windows xp, even though I have patched my sh3 (dvd) to 1.4b and have installed the greywolves to a clean unmodified sh3 directory.

But everytime I run the sh3 after installing the greywolves, I always encounter few problems.

Basically can someone please tell me in 'simple lamens' terms where in the hell am I am supposed to put the 4 remaining bin files after TGW11a.exe has been installed, its driving me nuts, as I have up to now uninstalled/reinstalled sh3 around 4 times now. I have even made a mods folder in the sh3 directory after a clean installation/patched to and then I will put the bin files in there, but I always get an error message saying something like the menu can't be found? I have had 'the menu can't be found error' 3 times now and once I got 'error 1305'.

Like when I go to run my sh3 game after greywolves has been installed, it will go to the main screen where the picture of the submarine and the red loading bar can be seen, it will load great, but after that it just crashes and thats when I get the error messages.

once TGW11a.exe has been installed, what do I do next? where do I put the 4 remaining bin files? is there something else I should download to get this mod working?

I absolutely love this game to the high heavens and pretty much know all the controls of the game to, so I really want to enjoy the greywolves supermod.

thank you so much in advance

The Greywolves SuperMod Cont:

ok after some deep reading in here I managed to somehow get it right so far, but it grieves me to say I have been up all night uninstalling/reinstalling/uninstalling/reinstalling blah blah blah .. when I make a brand new installation, I then patch it always successfully everytime, then I run the greywolves installer with the files downloaded individually from here

http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/ConningTower

again a total success everytime. Then when its time to play sh3 it goe's to the loading screen with no problems, then after say 2/3 minutes tops, the wait seems longer, anyway I then get to the actual menu screen where I can start a career, play a single mission ect, but I don't change anything, video graphics/audio settings ect, I just leave everything the way it is and go to play a single mission as I want to get straight into the game, so I pick a single mission and it loads up, but not entirely, like most of the red loading bar has loaded with only alittle to go, but it always just stays there and then hey hooo it eventually crashes.

Omg I really want to play this greywolves mod, I am so tired from sitting up all night trying for the life of me to get it right, but obviously I am missing something, not doing something. Is there another software I should download for this greywolves mod to work. I have windows xp and I know I have done mostly everything right so far, otherwise I would never get to where the single missions are.

When I start the game there is a picture of a wolf howling and then there is a huge torpedo spreading across the screen, so I know the greywolves mod has installed, but of course not entirely right.

Can someone please tell me in very simple lamens terms how I can achieve this greywolves mod setup without any real problems occuring everytime I start to play the game.

its really getting me down and I am rapidly losing interest

Thanks

Sorry your having difficulties and welcome to SubSim.

(In the simplest terms as per your request)

Uninstall SH3

Delete the SH3 folder in C\MyDocs

Perform a registry scan using regvac or crapcleaner (Google for them if necessary....craplcleaner is free and regvac has a free trial version).

Download the GWX3 exe and seven bin files from my FF account (link above my sig).

Click on my sig to access the Grey Wolves website and follow the installation instructions to the letter.

Good Luck Kaleun
