I'm a real nut when it comes to the Panama operation - that one deserved a movie for sure as far as I'm concerned

Oh, and what about when that F-105 (I think) pilot went down over Vietnam while the pilot was on his last mission, and they lost a bunch of helicopters trying to get him, and eventually they used golf course holes as directions to guide him to a rendezvous point on the river, where a daring man in a canoe picked him up? I can't think of anything about that non documentary style...

Correct me if I'm wrong

You should read some books about Bat21 that movie is ok but very not accurate.

Here is a link to the real story:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescue_of_Bat_21_Bravo

I think there might be a book about it as well but there is not a really good doc on the whole thing.

A really good film about one of the few Vietnam era POWs to escape and later get rescued is Rescue Dawn about which is also a true story about a US Navy pilot that got shot down over Laos it is not 100% accurate either but is much better than BAT21 movie wise.

For some reason Panama gets ignored I think because starting not much later in 1990 began Desert Shield and then Desert Storm and they get more attention movie wise. But there was a little known Delta Force rescue mission during Just Cause called Operation Acid Gambit:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Acid_Gambit I saw a show about it on the Military channel once.A movie about the American (many claim CIA) Kurt Muse and then his rescue that could be a good film.

Another often unknown but outstanding operation from Vietnam is the Son Tay Raid:http://www.psywarrior.com/sontay.html in many ways similar to the Osama raid and Operation Eagle Claw(history test). The POWs where not in the camp during Son Toy but it did end up boosting morale of American POWs in North Vietnam and they where all moved into a handful of locations and where all together.

Eagle Claw... wasn't that the mission to rescue hostages from Tehran? Just about everything that could go wrong did go wrong for those guys.

I thought that was Credible Sport - but I'm probably wrong.

Oh, wait, yep, it was Eagle Claw

Credible Sport was a back up then primary plan for the Iran hostage rescue using some crazily modified C-130 that had JATO rockets that where supposed to allow it to land VSTOL had a lot of problems and then they got let go so no more need for it.

Egale Claw failed because we lacked a specialist helo unit back then (no 160th Night Stalkers)and we just did not have the pilots trained for such a mission to work and we also had bad planning we did not know about the sand storms that pop up in Iran. The whole incident was learned from because they formed the 160th a few years later and the concept of the V-22 Osprey was largely inspired by the need for such an aircraft which we did not have back then.Eagle Claw also resulted in the formation of SOCOM.
