FINALLY got a program that recognizes the odd-ball 7z extension.....WINRAR (64 bit)

http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0...form%3DWindows

File now extracted to MODS and supposedly activated with JSGME. Now for the test.......

YES! IT WORKED !

Thanks to both of you.

FOR THOSE WHO FOLLOW:

1. file extension .7z is a zipped file format that is not recognized as such by WINZIP 8.1 nor by UNZIP WIZARD. I haven't tried PKZIP yet.

2. File extension .7z IS RECOGNIZED by WINRAR 4.0 - available as a free 32 or 64 bit application from download.cnet.com (see link above). It also regognizes a slew of these odd-ball zip extensions.

3. In the MODS subfolder of the game's root folder (xxx/SilentHunterIII), create a new folder named for whatever mod you are going to install.

4. Extract the .7zs file into this new folder

5. Open JSGME

6. Move the mod from AVAILABLE to ACTIVATED and close JSGME.

7. Start SH3 and enjoy.

Pray for me
With color contacts on? You know which ships are the enemy as soon as they're rendered! Okay, maybe you get half a prayer.

J/K, I loved that mod (still do), especially nice when you first start with GWX and have so many other things to get used to... it takes a little of the edge off. TBH I don't think I've played a full patrol yet without it, and I know I'm gonna miss it when things get dicey out there.

Glad you got the file extraction thing sorted out, anyway. Welcome to a wild wonderful world of modding your game.

Hi :-)

The .7z extension belongs to an opensource Zip programme called 7-Zip you can find more info on it here http://www.7-zip.org/. Its really very good, will open just about any zip file.

Pleased to learn you are sorted but fyi 7-zip is honestly not 'odd - ball' but arguably the most popular free file compression programme available today almost purely on the grounds it can compress files to a greater extent than all its competitors.

Don't forget, some of the newer ship additions still show grey because their alpha channels still require work on them but the colour will/should return to the ship icon when it comes into visual range.
