Hi all,
Just got the game yest wondering if anyone can help me

Game runs fine on my 2.6ghz 705mb ram xp machine but the graphics top side are blocky and have no detail - the water looks like a sheet of glass and waves are none existent.
ive got a sis 651c pci card but it dont have pix shader on it.

would upgrading the ram make much difference to that or should i be looking at a new card, also does anyone know if a pci can be over-ridden changed, if so how?

would love a few suggestions on g card if this is the case?
many thanks in advance

I would get a new card.
Cheap graphic cards that will run SH3:
GeforceFX5700 128 ram
Radeon 9600 Pro 128 ram

Ram is ok (just). Get the card first and see how that goes.

Then this is an unsupported graphics adapter. So what do you expect?

I didnt know that, the back of the game box says only a 64mb card which i though the one i had was good enough.

Do you know how easy it is to overide the pci and install a new one?

Thank You

I assume your board has an AGP slot for video cards?

To upgrade: Download the latest card drivers for the new card, uninstall the old drivers (via Control Panel/Software), shutdown the PC, remove the PCI card, insert the new AGP card, boot the PC, ignore the "Hardware found" message (press Cancel), install the new downloaded drivers and reboot, that´s all.

If the SIS card is an onboard card go to the BIOS and disable it before you install the new card (check your board manual for instructions).

Please tell us how much money are you willing to spend for a new card, then we can give some good recommendations.

That's all it says?

I have the US box. It says:

Video Card: DirectX9 compliant w/64MB RAM (128MB recommended)

I'm guessing your card is not fully DX9 compliant.

Furthermore it states:

Supported video cards at time of release:

NVIDIA GeForce 3/4/FX series, with the exception of MX series cards.

TI Radeon 8500/9000 family cards or newer.

Laptop models of these cards not supported.

These chipsets are the only ones that will run this release. For an up-to-date list of supported chipsets, please visit the FAQ for this game on our support website at http://support.ubi.com.

On my box it just states 3D Card 64MB and DirectX 9 or Higher. I think in NZ we get the Euro Version. But not sure. It is after all a minimum system requirement. I have a nvidia 6600GT which isn't top of the line but works ok.

May I borrow this topic for a quick question? I can!? REALLY? Thanks!

What is wrong with my computer, as I get max. of 11fps in SHIII?

Details:
Intel Celeron 2.93GhZ
1024 Kingston DDR RAM
ATI Radeon X600 PCI-e 256mb
Windows XP Home Edition

What should I upgrade? My computer stutters even on Half-life 1!

Edit: Graphics drivers are up-to-date.

So that´s about 220€ if the currency calculator isn´t wrong. For 240€ you can get a high-end card, like the ATI X800XT.

Look at your invoice or board/computer manual. Post everything that could be important (mainboard type, power supply or PC model type if it´s a Dell PC or something). The power supply is very important, if it´s a small one (<= 250 Watt) you cannot buy one of the newer high-performance cards.

Is that 1GB of RAM in 1 stick or more? If more, are all the sticks made by the same manufacturer and at the same speed?

Also, what are you graphic settings for anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering. Try minimizing them, if you haven't already.

Are you using recent drivers for your graphics adapter?

RAM is in two sticks and I had them on my previous comp with no problems. I got the recent drivers and I`ve tried with minimal graphics.

Something tells me that my problem is not graphic related, as my games stutter when there is more than 5 moving objects in screen (ships, ppl ie.).

The good thing is that SHIII will play rather smooth on 10fps. But when I see more than 5-7 ships at the same time, fps drops to 1-2.

So no convoy attacks for me!

So you are 100% sure that AA and AF is switched off?

Reinstall the board chipset drivers. Also check for spyware and viruses. Try the Omega drivers (www.omegadrivers.net). Reset the BIOS to default settings.

Yes, and it gives just 2-5 fps boost. That´s why I suspect it´s not a graphics related. And I tried with the new adaptive AA and got only 1-3 fps loss.

I`ll try the Omega drivers, if I remember right they didn´t help too much when I tried them the last time.

You should update the board drivers, maybe the AGP driver is broken. Also try the rest...
