Image was taken at a time when the last of the ice cover was melting away, and on one occasion the ice ripped out a private pier and the drifted off with it. This picture might be just that, the melting ice is "slushy" and the pier (or a piece of it) is stuck at the front, drifting along. Whatever it is, it is around 150 meters out according to the eyewitness. Interesting nontheless, and certainly brings back memories of Swedish choppers, depth charges and the all round paranoia of the 80's and early 90's.

Don't laugh, that is serious business.

Ever seen The Bedford Incident? The US Destroyer locates a Soviet Sub by the type of cabbage in its Sanitary Tank dumps.

Or it is the wake made by me dragging my ass as I haven't even managed 500 posts during my 9 years on Subsim.

You are absolutely right in your theory that it was a natural phenomenon in this case, but I want on my part to make it clear that what happened in the early 80's was NOT the paranoia that you express it, but what happened during the 1990's can be questioned set of other causes.

Agreed! I should qualify my paranoia statement with the fact that some of tje observations and attacks made where indeed foreign submarines imo. I was sort of poking fun at the blatantly false reports that were made, most probably in good faith. Everyone had submarines on their minds back then!

Yes, "some" media made it all pretty ridiculous, and blowing things up to the enormous amount of principle,
